New Currency Item : Gem XP
Pretty self-explanatory, I feel like it'd be nice to have a new currency item (rarity can be balanced based on how much XP each one adds). This item, when used, would add a set amount of XP to a gem.
If that XP causes the gem to level it would automatically level without prompting like it does now, so any excess would be added to the next level. You could accumulate and spam them on a single gem to level it from 1-20 if you wanted (although that would probably not be the best idea). /discuss PS. I realize you can just buy leveled gems, but those can get expensive, and if you find a high quality gem already I'd rather not spend months having to level it to 20. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Levels add quite a bit to certain gems so the difference between a level 19 and lvl 20 gem can be quite significant. PPS. Currency is always fun to find, more currency options doesn't seem like a bad thing and this one seems to fit nicely. This thread has been automatically archived. Replies are disabled.

" Gems hit 20 when your character hits 90. Which is give or take, depending on the build you play and how much time you take 50h. This is nowhere near 2 months. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1158669

So many responses on these forums basically saying 'my experience is different so you are wrong'...
Fun fact: your 50 hours of playtime to get to 90 and get a gem to level 20 is equivalent to 331 maps at a map every 9 minutes (based on approx. 331m required to get a gem to 20). Of course, this time would be compressed given you have to play your way to the point where maps are at least worth the xp. Good on you for being fast and mapping, presumably, in fair-sized groups, but your experience is certainly not representative of mine! |

Just to expand a bit and show why I can see where the OP is coming from...
I have a character approaching level 81. He's just popped his main gem to 18. 18 is not even half of the gem xp required to get to 20. This point tends to be where I get a bit more excited about levelling other characters rather than grinding out another 237 maps. |

Instead of this idea, I'd rather see the GCP + leveled gem recipe work with lower leveled gems.
I've had tons of gems at 18. Getting a gem to lvl 20 is a bit more time investment than I'm up for, to date. I guess, I'll eventually do it on a standard league character but I prefer the temp leagues (for whatever reason). Where there's one they're bound to divide it right in two.

" I'm pretty similar with a lvl 79 character and a number of level 18 gems. Frankly I dont give a flying you-know-what for a lvl 20 gem as I play for fun not to min-max. So this character I use mostly to do my FM dailies and slowly work my way to one level 8 Master (Elreon ofc) - The OP suggestion has merit though. ~ Please separate the PoE1 and PoE2 forums.

" It's like around 85 if you don't die. |

" Thats 100% not true. I am leveling 3 chars up for the challange atm so i can exactly tell you that non of my gems did get to 20 while leveling 1-85. They are araound level 18 when you hit 85. I am on my 3rd Char @ lvl 82 atm and i allways carried some of the gems i used in the first 2 chars in my offhand to level them as soon as i had the level to do so. The Purity of Fire + Herald of Thunder i started leveling on my first char did now hit lvl 20, after is leveld to 85 once with the first char with them, then from 68-85 on the 2nd one and now 70-82 on the last char. Imho the XP required for lvl 20 is totaly out of whack. Current Builds:

I think this might be a good idea.
Higher levels require substantially more xp to level. So if this gem gave a flat amount of experience, you might be using many, many, many gems to go from 19 to 20. So, then, who might this really benefit? Perhaps the lower level player wanting to switch gems... Lets say you make it to level 45 as a new player, and you decide you should try this flameblast thing. So you find one and equip it as a level 1 gem. Good luck. But with this currency, you could perhaps just use one or two of them, and you've now got something you can actually use. This would be practical for this use if the orb is value around the level of an alchemy. Wiki says that level 10 flameblast, requires level 40, and is around 1 million xp. So, lets say that this gem grants 500,000 xp for around half a chaos. What's a level 19 gem take xp wise? 150 million xp. So, for 1c you can get your gem up to level 40, or for 150 chaos you can get it to level 19 (or 57c to move from level 18 to 19.) [Edited to correct] All of this sounds perfectly fair and balanced, as long as the gem is limited and priced appropriately. And it would benefit the new player likely more than most. Those who might not be smart enough to just buy it on poe.trade. This orb being an occasional optional quest reward offered after level 40 might then also be neat. This might also help racers, which is fine by me. Last edited by DragonsProphecy#4593 on Jan 16, 2015, 9:34:24 AM

Why would they do that? This is like if we got an orb that gives us XP. Thats just ridiculous.
