GGG. About your spyware.

Well this thread was a good laugh. Never knew the forum had this many crazies on it.

The only thing GGG will instalock/ban for is maphacking, which requires a memory write-in and is pretty much 100% detected if that happens. Anything else just simply flags the account for further review. It's a system very similar to Warden. I won't post too much on how the AC system works based on the code that I've seen from various sources and my own debugging, but for once I have to actually congratulate GGG on finally putting together something that is actually decent. There are still issues with the AC not being able to deal with things like bots that are totally external from the actual executable process, chicken scripts, autopots, etc. but they've finally done something right in the past two years.
That being said, it's a little too late. |

Wont work blizz had Warden forever and hackers stayed one step ahead of it all the time.

Our Saviour Krillson on the spyware (from the official PoE forums):
"We don't scan the memory of other processes. People keep saying that we do, but it doesn't make it true. While on this topic, I should also note that we don't return any private data to our servers. There's nothing communicated other than information that directly determines whether you're cheating. Our anticheat stuff is really, really nice compared to almost every other game company out there. It's absolutely not pushing any privacy/legal boundaries, but combined with other systems we have, will be very effective at stopping people cheating." Rinku: http://www.reddit.com/r/pathofexile/comments/2t10nb/as_a_computer_engineer_expert_here_is_my_tackle/cnuqtxm GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence. "Oh, that of course changes everything. And worst change is putting almost all bosses in new version of maps into fucking small areas, where you can't kite well or dodge stuff. What a terrible idiot invented that I want say to him: dude flick you, seriously flick you very much. Last edited by silumit#4080 on Jan 21, 2015, 11:38:58 PM

Well they finally plucked up enough courage to comment, it is something. Too bad it is merely another poor damage control post. Chis claims that they don't scan memory while code clearly shows that their software perfectly capable of doing so. Same thing with window names. This raises obvious question - if GGG really doesn't steal your data then why such functionality is even there? I do not expect any answer here of course, but until spying capabilities are removed there are no reasons to trust Chris or any other GGG representative about their intentions.
And this part " is just hilarious. "Don't worry, we will be gentle screwing you up". Yeah, it helps. For sure. In years to come

" *bolded part* Again, they don't scan the memory used by each of your processes. In short - they don't know what page exactly you have opened in Firefox right now, they just know that you have Firefox running. See the difference? -_- *underlined part* Uninstall PoE then. What are you doing here then? Why are you still here? #Worldplot guys are really tedious... No one from GGG cares about your 500 Gb of porn and your all_passwords.txt stored on the desktop So quit posting BS. Pleeeeease. Remember, suffering is convenient.
That is why many people prefer it. Happiness requires effort. |

" You anti-security, anti-privacy guys are really tedious. Regardless of GGG's intentions, they are opening up an unnecessary hole in your system's security. For anti-cheat and anti-bot done correctly and in a security friendly manner in an untrusted client game architecture, see League of Legends for one example. Those of us who actually have some knowledge of computer security, who are actually aware of privacy rights and know why they are important, we could talk and post until we are blue in the face and have cramped fingers without ever getting through to some thick skulled people who have been lucky enough so far to have never had a system hacked nor been a victim of identity theft. Let me assure you, after having an important system hacked, after becoming an victim of identity theft, you *will* sing a different tune. It will be too late, but you'll finally be convinced... maybe... some of you are incurable. My 2c worth. PS: yeah left but been watching from the sidelines enjoying the show, wondering if GGG will ever wake up to reality or continue with their holy fragile vision and bleeding money like a sieve fighting client side. |
