Gotta say. Static Strike. is really strong.

While in the long run it does more damage than say a Cleave build

Only single target wise. AoE on Static Strike is 0.77x versus Cleave's 1.00.

Additionally, elemental damage is often halved (always halved in the case of act bosses). Molten Strike and Static Strikes' big numbers are actually reasonable versus Heavy Strike/Dual Strike/Double Strike when resist applies.

They're really good for a game with characters that only use one attack skill. Eh.

Trivializes shock because:

1) Initial hit crits, apply shock stack
2) Explosion hits after 0.75 seconds, probably while the enemy is already shocked dealing 105% of the damage of initial hit (70% * 1.5 cause of shock).
3) Explosion crits, producing shock equal to the initial hit

So i have a strong feeling we will see a nerf to it because of this. Would be more balanced if the explosion couldn't crit or didn't have the ability to continue shocking stuff in aoe.

I am using the skill myself and will be sad when they do nerf it. However unless they utterly destroy it, it will still be a nice skill to use because you don't have to use melee splash with it.

You don't need to crit, I have 35% shock chance (i went RT) and I permashock rares and bosses easily. I also don't need shock vs trash mobs because I oneshot everything x) I wonder how it will pan out in late game, pure lightning damage means resist mobs are a pain in the ass but then again one doesn't have to use phys to lightning...
GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
How did you get 35% chance to shock? :3

I am really curious, max i can get from tree is 10%, because everything else is far away in the witch area.
Unless we are counting in conductivity there? :P

I'm playing scion to reach both RT and witch & shadow areas for 30% shock chance

(dual wielding with soultaker so I can run herald of thunder + 2 60% auras or 3 purities)

Having heaps of fun so far

On the other hand, if you do use Physical to Lightning, you can basically treat "increased lightning damage" as "increased damage", which makes getting all those shock nodes in the witch area easier because those increased damage nodes aren't at half strength.

Also, when you're dealing 100% elemental damage, you care a lot less about your base damage and a lot more about resist reduction. Lightning Penetration is much better in the long run than Melee Physical, for example, because penetration is way more useful against high resist enemies - where you need the most help.

Ideally, all you would need for buckets of damage is corrupted gloves with elemental weakness on hit, and lightning penetration. Maybe a secondary curse link if you want to go dual curse for those really high resist mobs.

I put Static Strike on my Lightning Strike Duelist, just to see what it is like. Sadly it's better than Lightning Strike in every single way. The only advantage LS has is the possibility of using it ranged.
So now my LS Duelist basically became a Static Strike Duelist. I can't think of any reason to use LS anymore.
Yes yes!

I found this early too and went all the way to lvl 61 before I ripped because I was tired and stupid!

Im going to go full THOR on this build, full lightning with all the pen and lightning flasks just incase!!!

Twill be good!

I too love this skill, feels nice being able to go in 1vs1 on the big guys/bosses and the small guys just melts around at the same time.

I wonder what is more effective in the long run though, dual wielding super fast daggers or going super hard hitting 2 handers. So far 2 handers feels really good to me.
Post some mapping or merciless videos of some static strike gameplay please.
