There is some argument that the alternate spell ending 'ggas' rather than 'ggers' represents the appropriation of the word by African American culture, but this is neither the time nor the place for such a discussion. For the purpose of moderation, you'd be wise to just not use slang for any race or culture, period.
I'm a pakeha kiwi, I only get offended when people call me an Aussie when I am overseas.

edit 2. So the N-word is considered hate speach because it is so in USA. What about "black"?
Where I come from black is considered the inappropriate one and the n-word is the more correct one.
Neither are particularly pleasant terms these days. This relates to a discussion we had in Off-Topic recently regarding the word 'retarded'. It is absolutely unacceptable to call a person a 'retard' (noun) but the word still has perfectly legitimate usage as an adjective or verb ('his learning has been retarded'). I'd say it's much less offensive to say 'he is black' (adjective) than 'he is a black' (noun). Not entirely sure why, but the latter just looks ignorant and dismissive. Being Chinese, I'd probably say it's similar to 'I am Chinese' vs 'I'm a Chinaman'.

Well I have autism ,so every time someone calls me retarded or something I do retarded , is that not hatespeech ?
Since I am likely doing something retardedly due to my autism which is a form of social retardation it would only seem fair to mute anyone who uses it .
Hate speech is, outside the law, speech that attacks a person or group on the basis of attributes such as gender, ethnic origin, religion, race, disability, or sexual orientation
However you have to keep in mind... when alot of people go around callng situations/objects/NOT people .. retarded ... its not the same thing.
and its one thing if you are talking about IRL like at an event/party/etc..
and online.... do you know how many times ive seen people go around using the word Gay?
GGG doesn ot have the manpower to go around muting people for every little word that may or may not be being used to bring down a group of people...
if you start insulting the christian/catholic/jewish/muzlim religion you probably wont get muted.. butas soon as yoou start insulting the actual people themselves you will.....
in otherwords i think GGG has a much stronger stance towards removing racist topics from chat than from EVERY SINGLE NEGATIVE term....
i definitely dont agree as all things insulting should be moderated but its a hellofa job to do that.. and if i had to pick one.... racism would be the first one to get rid of.

Two things about this:
1) I simply don't know what to say. Sure, the "n-word" (I can't help but to say that in a kindergarten teacher voice) sounds somewhat agressive to most, but that's because it's used in that context most of time. It if were used in a more friendly way, mods wouldn't bother. Then again, It's used/taken offensively because of the little research again. On the other hand, using african-american sounds almost the same way as arachnid, prokaryote or homo erectus; it's more like a scientific term, something remotely different than humans. My friends aren't bothered by calling them "black" on an average situation, but may the Chaos Gods have mercy upon your soul if you call them that way in front of your boss/teacher.
2) Expect reactions like this from Charan; I remember reading that he was nominated to be a licentiate on english or something like that. It's pretty much saying that Pi equals 3.14 to a mathematician or that all books are pretty much the same to a writer.

A little common sense, and good manners can go a long way.
We're all guests in GGG's house. It takes little effort to respect their VERY lax rules.
