"Would have been nice, albeit impractical, if they could rollback the items that people had if they were among the ones that had their accounts locked. i.e if someone had 7 '+1 drillnecks', they replace them with 7 'drillnecks' & 7 vaal orbs =P. Ive seen this problem crop up in multiple games before, so I am fairly happy that GGG takes the stance that this is a ban worthy offence. If anything they are very nice people, being very lenient with their banning policies (mostly because of ambiguity, they seem to be very careful not to hand out false bans) Last edited by Metronomy#6891 on Nov 17, 2014, 7:19:43 PM

"Nothing impractical about that. 1.Enters [instance] carrying [rollable item] & [currency] 2.Instance crash (data loss), re-makes [instance] 3.Instance crash (data loss), re-makes [instance] 3.Instance crash (data loss), re-makes [instance] 4.Instance crash (data loss), re-makes [instance] 5.Instance crash (data loss), re-makes [instance] 6.Leaves [instance] carrying [GG rolled item] "1.", in this case, is the last state confirmed valid. Anything beyond that is wiped. Done. Letting those users keep their cheated crap is nothing short of a rainbow colored invitation sign reading in 18pt Comic Sans: "Keep cheating as you please; just don't get perma banned and we won't punish you to a point where it actually matters since you get to keep the results of your confirmed EULA breach." Edit for case in point: In EVE Online any currency that is confirmed to have been aquired through illicit means is removed with extreme prejudice, no matter what it was exchanged for or who posseses it at the time. The result is a healthy amount of paranoia when dealing with possibly shady folks because CCP will not hesitate one second to smash the wallets of everyone involved into such massively negative values so as to render their character/s practically unplayable. Funny how much some people act like they care about the game they actively protests to ruin with their ideals of how everything should work.

I agree with everything you said, which is why I said that I thought GGG are being very lenient. Thought what I dont really know, and neither do you, is the length of time & scale that this has gone on for. I take the view that if it was practical for GGG to roll back the items (which they might have done but not told us), then they would have done so. I know that its exceedingly easy to investigate a single case, but doing that on a large scale usually makes things more difficult. GGG arent really leaving us with enough information to comment on which accounts should be banned/suspended, which is in line with how they usually act on moderation issues. For all I know they could be investigating all suspended accounts & banning those that crashed the game + gained from the exploit, one at a time. |

I like to point to D2 because there were several server crash methods over time.
It might work if there are only a few individuals using it. But Blizzard only fixed the method in the past because some crashs could be used by accident. But then there were crashmethods that got massabused and the crashlogs were several million lines big to ban every single abuser would take months if not years. That's why Blizzard changed the policy over time and permabanned accounts instantly even only 1 person abused it. The more perpetrators an exploit has the harder it will be to ban everybody involved properly. Imagine there are 2000 SPAs, that do the crashing and there are many itemsavers. GGG would have to do a lot of work to do to ban everybody involved. Now imagine those players mule items away after they got 4 pages on several steps. There is no way the devs will catch everybody. Banning SPAs NP. Banning accounts in instance NP. Banning accounts saving the rolled/dupes-->Too much work. And now imagine GGG attempts to trace the original items by instance/character backups. They just had to give the original away for free or sell it cheap and somebody innocent gets banned. That's why professionals crash gameservers in so called waves at night. They take 4-6 hours time and crash 75% of the time and the remaining 25% they save items. |
