risk/reward isn't coming. ever. [I give up]

[EDIT to clarify: this isn't a "quitting game" thread. I'm still playing.]

I've been thinking about this for quite a while.
judging from the nature of posts, I seem to be the only one in this forum right now, who still wants risk/reward, classic ARPG tiered gear with real crafting and recipes for all orbs, and less dependency on trade. preferably none.
I wasn't the only one in Open Beta. not by a long shot.
to me, that's almost as important as stabilizing the game from a technical standpoint, though that still should be priority #1.

well sadly, I am now forced to throw in the towel. give up the fight.
after countless posts of mine were completely ignored by GGG, I realised two things:
1) there is not point to keep trying.
2) why they are ignoring.

well, why indeed?

the simple reason, is because GGG want this game to be trade-centred. they just do, although I find that part extremely hard to understand, much less explain.

the more complex reason, is players vs. content.
in this game, there are trade-tycoons, no-lifers, multi-clienters, Magic-Find party farmers.
if the game had steady risk-based, tiered progression - any of the above will be demanding newer content as early as a couple of weeks from the release of a new expansion.
GGG want to give themselves breathing space for a couple of months, and thus they are locking gear and content behind the most effective lock they can: RNG.
in ARPG, RNG is a means to an end. an important tool in a toolbox.
in PoE, RNG is the purpose. and that's unlikely to ever change due to the above reasons.
you can multi-client-24/7-magic-find-grind and trade past any in-game challenge, but you can't do so past random throws of dice.

what does it mean for players who don't do either? well, they'll just have to cope with the fact they are unlikely to ever see any of the best-in-slot, 6-link-Shavronne-mirror-tier-rare gear, and unlikely to ever access Uber-Atziri-tier content, much less beat it. much less farm it and trade above godly items on a daily basis.

brute-force grinding past these locks is possible, but takes literally half a dozen thousand hours of doing the same things - as Anuhart demonstrated - and even that is up to chance quite a bit.
and I'm still not sure he can beat Uber Atziri, if he manages to grind past the lock to Alluring Abyss.

some, will quit the game once they realise this.
others - like myself - who care about the game and see the passive tree, customization, wacky skill combinations with classes "not supposed to" use those skills, and other great things GGG did regardless of their must-trade-RNG-stubbornness - will find other ways to try and enjoy it.
accept being "lesser players" in GGG's eyes, and play differently.

I am frustrated beyond words right now.
yes, even the above wall-of-text isn't enough.
but risk/reward isn't coming. and since I spent more than a year of my life screaming in space, and no one seems to be listening - the time has come to stop screaming.

Adios john. Best of luck wherever you go. Good news is though that Witcher 3 comes out in several months, and the devs have stated all DLC will be free.

Peace

I'm not leaving the game.

but I am stopping risk/reward posts.
no one from GGG seems to give a shit - because of the reasons in OP - and I'm just wasting my time and effort.

john, you are a very disorganized writer. I read your post and I can't tell if I agree or disagree because you wrote about so many different things that don't seem to be related. What do recipes for all orbs have to do with risk/reward? Why is trade in opposition to risk/reward? Is your main point about too much grinding or about too little risk?

How I make PoE more challenging, less monotonous, and more fun:

* Avoid all OP Uniques, Mirrored Rares, items costing more than 5-6 Exalts.
* Ignore all the 6-link drama, optimize your skills for 3-5 links.
* Exploit the hell out of mid-level Uniques and their rarely used synergies.
* Avoid pricey MTX, get some skin transfers and find a decent pair of pants.
* Boycott pay2play shake-downs like 73+ maps and guided Atziri tours.
* Solo Merc Dominus to determine whether you have a viable endgame build.
* Plan your build to reach retirement age at lvl-80 with 100 skill points.

There's a lot of people listening. And a lot of people sharing (some of) your views. I play 100% solo self found, so some of your views speaks to me.

But GGG have made it pretty clear from the get-go that the "economy" is their gem. Their jewel. Their almighty. So "attacking" this part of the game, is like bashing a cow for eating grass.

And can you please try to describe to me what you mean by "risk/reward"? Is this possible in a soft core environment? Or are we talking hard core only?

Youre just the only one that believes GGG still cares.

Everyone else is rational and realizes they dont give a fuck.
