Removed from hard core after using a portal

I was just before piety, decided to leave first, used a portal and after the load screen started i got logged out and then when i logged back in i was in default league. I havent logged back into my character yet, but i dont understand what would have caused me to switch leagues by using a portal?

Evidently others have reported this issue as well. If game can crash while using a portal, and that can remove you from HC.

Bumping post until someone from GGG responds so i know the issue is known. This issue is very aggravating, makes me want to alt f4 instead of use portals in the future (and just always grind to way points)


Point is I understand my situation cant be fixed but the issue should be added to known bugs as many people have reported it already.

You can die while using a portal, and the league transfer will cause a disconnect when it tries to put you in a hardcore instance.
When you click the portal, there's a delay before the server gets that message, and further delay while it actually creates the new instance if it doesn't exist, then as it does the actual transfer. It is possible for monsters to kill you during this time. When this happens, the game will disconnect when it sees a (now) Default-league character attempting to be placed in a Hardcore instance.

Sorry about your character. We have been working on new systems to reduce the time that you're vulnerable during the transition, but note that due to latency it can never be entirely removed.

Why not just make people invulnerable from the moment they click on a portal? Or is that one of those "it's not a bug, it's a feature" things?
That can't happen, because you click on the client and it takes time for the server to get the information that this has happened.
An upcoming patch implements an invulnerability period while loading between instances that should prevent most of these deaths, but latency will always exsit, and thus there will always be some delay.
Okay cool, good to know. Same bull crap happened to me and I'm just going to wait until this grace patch gets implemented. I don't like injustice or illegitimacy one bit, so post-patch will be my last run unless I die a fair and just death my second time around. If it happens again the second time, I'm hanging my hat and waiting for the next game to come out since I will be finished wasting the time I did crafting my character.

Or, I could just play it safe and wait until official release to start again when I'm more comfortable with using the game's features. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the game. Blows anything Diablo-style completely out of the water, I'm just not going to take the time leveling up another character just to be a victim of another fluke. I understand it's just Open Beta, so I'm definitely chill about it; but 1st time, shame on you, 2nd time, shame on me.

How about a small area around portals and waypoints that causes monsters to flee and/or makes everything (players and monsters, to avoid abuse) invulnerable? Some sort of preventive measure?

I think that's where the invulnerability comes in. An idea like this though would be exploited to hell. You could pull a pack of mobs to a small corridor, throw up a TP, get on the opposite side of the TP and range them down from safety.
Same thing happened to me, very frustrating after putting so much time into the game :p

I had just killed Piety in Cruel with an entire group @ level 60. Didn't get hit one time.. So after killing her I had to go into the barracks to go up to the wall that zones you into the next difficulty into Hillock.

I clicked the door @ the wall.. There were zero mobs around this entire group that was running there ( we cleared the entire way ). Click the wall, loading screen.... Disconnect.... Log back in, Default league...

Pretty lame...
