Standalone client not patching
The campus network definitely allows games.
What's weird about this is that I was having absolutely no problems before 1.2.3b |
I don't know whether they allow games or not. what I DO know is that they have managed network security (like a corporate network) and these are changing constantly.
it's also possibly a DNS issue as I said before, or a issue with caching. if you attempt to run a winmtr to patchcdn.pathofexile.com what happens? does it all resolve and ping properly? if you try connecting to a VPN, does it patch then? instructions for setting up a free VPN can be found in the Consolidated Technical sticky post. |

Here's what I got from WinMTR

looks like not a DNS issue.
does the log file say anything about patchcdn.pathofexile.com? if so, take that address and add PathOfExile.exe to it and save it in the PoE folder and try to run it instead. |
What log are you referring to?
And since it's not a DNS issue, does that mean the campus network isn't the issue? |
" the Client.txt log file and no. just because DNS works has nothing to do with network security. Last edited by Drakier#1520 on Oct 1, 2014, 9:36:42 PM

This is all the client log file says. I don't think it's too different from what it said previously, but here goes:

Ok.. that makes me think you have a network security issue because it cannot properly GET the server address in the first place.
Try downloading this file for the PathOfExile.exe. Your network admins likely need to open at LEAST port 12995 as that is the server port to get the patching information. |
I could download the file just fine, but when I ran it, I got the same error as before:
" Also the client.txt says the same thing it did before, where it timed out while waiting for the packet from the patching server. |
" Yup. Only thing you can try now is using the VPN connection to see if that will bypass your network security and allow patching. You might only need the VPN for patching however and NOT for the actual gameplay (depending on open ports). |
