Standalone client not patching

The game worked with no issues earlier today. Now, however, I can't login to the game. Every time I launch, the game checks resources then goes straight to the login screen, which doesn't let me log in to the game because there's a patch the game hasn't downloaded.

I ran the Pack Check utility, and it said all hashes were in sync.

What should I do to fix this?
can you post the exact error you get, and are you right-clicking on the shortcut or PathOfExile.exe and selecting "Run as Administrator"?
I'm running as adminstrator. I've tried using a shortcut, Client.exe, Pathofexile.exe, all to no avail.

Like I said, the game doesn't do any form of patching. When I try to log in at the login screen, it says: "There has been a patch you need to update to. Please restart Path of Exile"
can you look at the last few lines of the Client.txt log file in the logs folder and see if it says anything about patching or the exe?
I uninstalled and tried a fresh install, and here's what my client.txt says:

2014/10/01 20:00:46 ***** LOG FILE OPENING *****
2014/10/01 20:00:46 44554493 14b [INFO Client 2444] Send protocol version
2014/10/01 20:01:06 44574493 154 [CRIT Client 2444] Timed out while waiting for packet from the patching server

Edit: when I try running PathOfExile.exe, I get the following error: Error opening file: Data/BaseItemTypes.dat

looks like a patching server connection issue.

perhaps your DNS is bad. can you change your DNS to use Google OpenDNS and set primary server to 8.8.8.8 and secondary to 8.8.4.4?
What does that mean, my DNS is bad? I can connect to everything else and download other files without issue.

Edit: I'm on a college network, so I don't know if I can change my DNS

ahh. that would likely be the problem.

campus network security is usually closed.

you likely won't be able to patch without talking to your network admins.
But why now? I've been playing for several months now without issue. Oh well, I guess I'll have to contact IT or something
you would have to talk to them. perhaps they changed their firewall policies recently... I don't know that.

but it's very common for campus networks to not allow games.
