"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered"

I had the same problem with my ati card too. I solved it by going to control panel - system and security - power options - change plan settings - change advanced power settings.

Scroll down to pci express and set link state power management to 'off'
Now click Ok and you should be good to go.

For some reason the graphics card goes into power saving mode or something.

Hope it works for you too.
This is always either a problem with the graphics card or its driver. Since updating the drivers didn't seem to fix it, the GPU could be to blame.

If it is overclocked, restore it to default clock speeds first. Then try using a looping benchmark program to stress test - Unigine heaven is a good one. If the GPU cannot run the benchmark looped without the driver crashing, its time to get it replaced under warranty, if you still have warranty coverage on it.

If you don't then you can try underclocking the card first which would usually work, or it could be time for a replacement.

Thank you, I have been looking at all the forum posts, tried everything that they said but this works.
As soon as I got into the game, I went to Options and downgraded the settings from high to medium or off.
The game really flies now!
