Palace Dominus damage output is overboard
" Ive killed double palace dominus with melee builds on multiple occasions, never died to that boss in Palace in any situation, double boss, -max, gmp, shocking ground, double reflec, extra damage as X etc. I really have no clue what most of the people in this thread are talking about to be honest, 4 additional projectiles is extreme for melee, that is certainly a mod you want to be very, very weary of and I can feel your pain there. A few times Ive forgot its multiproj until I got into the boss fight and then was left desperately running for cover while shitting my pants. But without multiproj, his ghost barrage thing has a little wind up, you see it coming and just circle him? he cant hit you if you move away and keep moving away, just like the vaal laser. I think its one of the best boss fights in the game, I love it. I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

" well I can't it coming, and even if I do I can't always dodge it. why? because in the Vaal Laser's case, there's no fancy-eye-candy particle effects or stupid weather "atmosphere" - so I actually see him switch to the Fork Arm, and can then run around it in real-time, without my damn screen freezing. in Soul Stream's case, I often just see it hit me, or just hear my character RIP-scream. and if I'm still alive, he'll just pop a couple totems on my arse or have his endless sea of minions explode on me, while I still can't do a damn thing about it. at least I can still dodge "Touch Of God" most of the time. I just have a couple milliseconds of warning where other players have a full second. one of the two main reasons I dislike the Dominus fight, is GGG insist on making it a "lots of shit happening in the background" player-GPU-strength-check (which is even worse with their "optimization") - instead of making it a clean fight like Vaal. the other reason, is every damn thing he does just does ridiculous amounts of damage. notice the "subtle" difference of Vaal spreading ice to set you up for the laser or slam, vs. Dominus popping totems that can kill you in seconds all by themselves. and now they did the same GPU-check in the Merveil fight as well. yet another "can't see shit, Captain" fight with so much stuff happening on the screen, I actually beat her in Necropolis without even knowing if I'm hitting her or not. thank god for Puncture (OP). The totems do not kill you in seconds unless you have 20 cold res.
I'm all for optimizing graphical issues but I wouldn't consider that a flaw of dominus. It sounds like you're heavily lagging during the fight. I personally don't lag at all during the fight but used to on my older graphics card. Hopefully GGG keeps improving optimization. Will just link you a vid that shows a double palace dominus kill done with 0 fire res, and 27 lightning res. Only one hit from dominus ever lands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQhBHpQtcy0&list=UUnaP100kTBB_WGM9IiF73yw There is a lot more room for error when you have actual resists against palace dominus. In this case the minions would have onehit Mathil and the lightning streams do two hit or onehit in the case of a crit/higher roll. You don't need to be as good as Mathil but minimum dodging skills are required. If you lag heavily then you shouldn't do this fight at all. Last edited by kasub#2910 on Sep 20, 2014, 2:40:33 AM

I'm lagging because I'm failing the GPU-check, Kasub.
but my point is there shouldn't be a GPU-check to begin with. there shouldn't be a "throw everything all at once on the player, plus spice-up with some useless weather effects" approach to boss fights. certainly not when you know your engine has problems with that. Vaal is great not just because AI, or cleverly-crafted attacks that synergise with each other, or actually good, non-cheap use of minions. he's great because the fight is about GGG knowing their limits, and playing their strengths in the fight's design. Dominus? he's the exact opposite of that. and for some unknown reason, someone in GGG actually thinks a boss like that is a good idea - because they let him design Merveil too. oh I completely agree. Weather and many particle effects should have an option toggle since they have proven to be taxing on many systems.

" I would like to see a video of this. One that actually can be seen as proof for this claim. Because I have my doubt that this can be done by anything that straight up faces him. Desync is just too much of a pain in the ass in that fight. I am not even talking about the slam here but his "laser". With 0% lightning resistance I would assume that it easily one shots you as well. |

He is fine, even on a non-facetank build. That is until he desyncs. Of course, the same could be said of almost every boss in PoE. There is definitely a pattern there.
