Hellgate Global

If anyone is playing hellgate global, feel free to add me as a friend / message me if I am online!

My name is Viktoria or Sofistica

I play them both now and then :). Game's very fun when grouped on a harder difficulty. Alone it gets very boring.
I am not a female, but I really wish I was. <3
The game was far from finished when it was released. Which is the problem. What we played was pretty much beta >>

However, I loved the setting immensely (I have since run roleplaying games set in similar settings). So the fact that the setting is still up and running, this I will have to look into.

Thanks

It's actually not the "same" now. The original company sold off the rights to it to some Korean company. They've relaunched it in July to us here. The Korean version is way more advanced, more bug fixes, etc. etc. They gave us a crap version compared to that, haha. But still very fun :)

Flagship never sold the game to Hanbit, they were forced to give them the code because they were going under.

Ouch, so they didn't even make money from it. Why would flagship be forced to give their code to someone just because they were going under?

Flagship took out loans from Hanbit and Comerica (a bank), offering the intellectual property rights to Hellgate and Mythos as collateral. They ended up in a state where they couldn't pay the loans back, and had to give up the games when they defaulted. Hanbit eventually bought what Comerica owned to gain full rights to the games.

This is why both games are in a state of disarray... They're being run by small dev teams that don't have creator-knowledge of the code, and owned by a company that wants to turn them as far into MMO's as they can, because that's the biggest market in Korea. I recently read an interview with a top T3 executive who said that HGG had 20 people working on it. That's about the same number as PoE has, and GGG is an indie studio.

Both games are being updated from the Korean release, but are a few versions behind. They update in Korea, then the localization teams take a long time to translate everything (rather poorly) before the months-old versions are patched on the NA/EU servers.

Ahh great to know, thanks for that. Now I understand it. Has anyone tried mythos? Or is it not worth the time?

That and the fact that HGL was a mess to begin with anyway. Poorly coded, poorly executed, awful design decisions. A terrible rush job smash'n'grab to empty as many wallets as possible before it went under. They knew it was failing long before it shut down.

It amazes me that such an epicly flawed game still exists at all. I was there for HGL launch and beta, and was one of the people who later regularly posted on flagshipped.com which become infamous in HGL circles.

It was such a great idea for a game, executed so ineptly it was almost painful to play.

So no I wont be playing it - not unless im given an option of either playing HGL or pulling my eyes out with cocktail sticks.

Was a decent game, still is essentially, but its run/published by frogster in the EU who are terrible developers. They rarely update it or sort out issues, and basically ruined the game by nerfing drop rates to encourage uber grinding. Id avoid it if I were you, cant say about the NA release but I assume it will be a similar story. Anything with traditional item shops is usually a massive con job, its one of the reasons why this game appeals so much.

Mythos EU sucks because Hanbit tried to turn it into an MMO instead of leaving it as a pure hack-and-slash. Frogster is just the publisher; they don't have any development involvement. They run the servers and act as liaison between the community and Hanbit, but that's about it. All the hatred should be aimed at Hanbit for destroying that awesome game. I posted about this on my Mythos blog a while back.

Mythos Global will likely be the exact same terribly broken client that's running in EU right now.

Hellgate Global is horrible.

HG:L was bad, they should have chosen a niche and stuck to it. Instead, they tried to appeal to everybody and their mother, and ended up with a horrible mess of a game that felt and played like it had no actual direction anywhere.
