Mount & Mounted Battle Function.

Mounts forces a gameplay aspect on people really because if you don't have one you'll lag behind people who do.Sacred 2 has mounts but you can quickly catch up as you can teleport to any person in your party at anytime.Also Sacred 2 is more suited to mounts it being one big open map where I think POE might be more cramped.

I don't think mounts would fit well from what I have read about the world and play, seems like a on-foot battle to me. but it could be a fun distraction, maybe have it as a side-quest/mini-game or something, where you can see how many monsters you can slay in a field under a time limit while on a mount or survive the most waves of monsters before your mount dies. Maybe a Zombie-horse you ride to tear through an unending onslaught of zombies and skeles in a mass grave from some past battlefield.

Please do not implement this. POE is unique as ever right now, the last thing it needs is to conform to other mmos....

This to me sounds rather unnecessary, considering your main progress should be forward in a generally linear fashion, traveling for a good amount of time doesn't sound like something you'd do in an instance dungeon. Sounds like feature creep.

Sacred 2, which was an APRG, had mounts implemented as well. In that game, they served the purpose of expediting travel via an increase to movement speed. Combat while mounted was identical to unmounted combat, but the mount itself provided a "buffer zone" - your mount would die before you did, giving you a brief moment to get the hell outta there. Each class had a specific mount, and all of them looked pretty cool. The implementation was solid, in that they didn't impact gameplay to significant degree; mounts were for more aesthetic purposes than anything else.
I think that, were Path of Exile to implement any sort of mounts, it would best benefit from a similar system. Mounts could be purchased via micro-transaction and players would be permitted to ride them in outdoor areas. While not providing any statistical or speed bonuses, they would serve as a unique character addition for anyone who was interested, which would also keep true to the "ethical micro-transaction" payment model they have planned. |

" Why would I want to pay for a mount, if there is no speed increase? This would only make sense for slower mounts such as a bear. I'm personally against mounts for PoE anyways, as they won't match up with instance system, and don't fit in very well in a dungeon-crawler setting. |
|
" Why is that such an bad idea with mounts? I recon that it is a good idea to get from point A to point B in lesser time. And your worries about them instances, the character will auto-dissmount when teleported into an instance or dungeon, and will not be premitted to mount up while inside. Problem soloved. //Taurus1979

Well, except for the fact that everywhere is instanced in Path of Exile. Even towns.
I have wandered through insanity;
I have walked the spiral out. Heard its twisted dreamed inanity In a whisper, in a shout. In the babbling cacophony The refrains are all the same: "[permutations of humanity] are unworthy of the name!" |
