End game farming can be more profitable item-wise but low level zones have the same chance as high level zones to drop currencies. Really it just comes down to preference, if you are more comfortable in high level farming mode then it's not like you are missing out on a lot by using as many regrets as you need. At the VERY most it will cost you on the order of 100 regrets to give yourself a full respec at lvl 71, much more if you revert bandit choices... It's just currency. During the time you are farming you can still gain levels as well.
You aren't losing out one way or the other, it just depends on how much time/effort you want to put in, and what kind of grinding you tolerate best
Good break down of end-game vs re-roll farming. I have always much preferred end-game farming in other games.

There are enough people playing PoE that it is easy to convert any currency into any other currency, on the in-game message board, because there are always enough people that want to buy and want to sell. That being said, the average price in standard league before the new leagues started was around 1 regret per 2 chaos.
Before 1.2 I could farm corrupted areas for midnight fragments and sell them for 20 chaos (that's 10 regrets right there), though corrupted areas are harder to find now with the 1.2 patch.
Once you are able to run maps, it is much easier to farm currency. If you identify all your magic finds and vendor up, as per previous threads, you can farm currency without wasting too much time (farm as you level). Loot drops in maps are phenomenal compared to the storyline game.

Right on. I find enjoyment in fine tuning my characters rather than continuously re-rolling. So, I'd never need to do a massive respec, but I could see myself changing 20-30 points at some point. Last night, for example, I refunded four points out of a keystone passive on my tank templar. I can see myself doing that sort of thing as I test things out and figure out what I like and don't like.
