Ice spells underwhelming and in serious need of buffing

Yes.

All the time builds using shockstacks or burningdmg with any skill, but really few skill can produce freeze

I totally agree that these spell are good late game with solid gear, but leveling in this one month race is crippling with ice spells.

So why would you make a build exclusively around ice spells? They are support skills valuable for crowd control, not power-leveling. Not even triple-trap Cold Snap is good for crowd clearing, but it's a great way to pin the hordes down under your Flameblast.

Dont mix op being op just because its used with CoC. Do you ever see a self cast fireball or artic breath user in the game or even on spell totems? Nope, its almost always used in conjuntion with CoC. One of the good ice spells that I liked to use in the past was freeze pulse then it also got hit with the nerf bat.

Just because it can chill and freeze mobs does not make it op. By that logic shock stacking is just game breaking with absurd damage values when stacked 3x.

You forget, this is a gaming forum. The language is just a bit different... Anything that does something other than straight elemental or physical damage is broken, anything that can kill a boss is OP, anything that doesn't kill Atziri in ten seconds is not viable.

Got me to laugh.

+1
they are only good for their chilling/freezing, which is a moot point for leveling when other element spells can clear stuff much faster.

and what is the point of freezing when u have mom/aa/purities/block that negate majority of dmg by themselves or you have spells do more damage and clear faster anyway. atziri is immune to status too.

-freezepulse: mediocre
-ice nova: early level ok, later utter shit
-arcticbreath: good for CoC only
-ice spear: easy to freeze but mediocre area damage
-glacial cascade: the only decent ice spell that does damage, but still require much investment
then again its not a pure ice skill.
-cold snap: good for freezing thats it
-freeze mine: freezing
-frost wall: instant kick in parties

then u look at the fire skills like incinerate, flameblast, detonatedead even RF which are WAY better in terms of efficiency dmg output and don't require insane gears that only the rich can afford.
Why do ice spells need a buff in general when your complaint is leveling? Why not say "Ice spells need to suck less while leveling early game".

So they won't be buffed to obscene levels to negate their shitty early game.

lightning spells suck for early game leveling too.

once u go searingbond/flameblast/detonatedead, you can't go back. they are just much better and faster than other spells for leveling.

Funny you should mention - I've actually avoided Flameblast like the plague simply because i don't want to be hooked on using it :P

yeah ideally i would like to use other spells rather than those 3 for leveling,
but those are the only spells that let you reach mapping fast
so that you transition to your intended builds sooner.

also those spells need very little gear/links investment, so you save currency like fusings for your future builds, especially in temp leagues.
I'm rather surprised that no one has mentioned this yet.

A fire build with elemental proliferation is a better defensive setup compared to any ice spell that can freeze. In POE when a mob is frozen it stops moving for about a second then continues heading for its target, you, unless you kill them while frozen. If I ignite a corpse the A.I. is programmed to flee away from the damage. It is safer to burn targets and have them flee because this distracts them longer compared to just freezing and/or chilling a target. The elements all have their own "flavor" fire = burn damage, cold = freeze and shatter corpses, Lightning = shock damage, and what is rather odd is that the defensive utility of freezing an enemy is inferior to doing the same thing with fire and eleprolif which has a higher damage/clear speed from burning damage.

Edit: I just remembered, fire spells just got a unique that can remove corpses as well.

Not all foes are programmed to flee when set aflame. Actually, I think it's only humans and monkeys that flee, though I could be wrong about that.
