Your League ideas

It would be interesting if you could implement an alliance based system as its own League, sort of like what World of Warcraft has done with the horde and the alliance. It would be a PvP based League, except players would ally with other players to battle the enemy alliance for control of towns, dungeons, etc. Of course this may get too chaotic, but it is my two cents nonetheless.

"Invasion" would be a PVP League.

Plays like every other game, but other players can invade you while you're out questing. This will make people in the league game on their toes. When a player is invaded it will say that you are invaded of course.
The invaders will only be able to invade players from 3-4 levels above or below them.

If you have a party, the invaders will scale with how many members you have. Soloing will have them stay at their normal hp and damage, while in a party of 2 the invader might get a HP, DMG, or DEF boost. This makes it challenging for the party and invader.

The reward for invading or defending off invaders can either be gold, exp, or even just bragging rights.

I play Demon's Souls and thought it would be a fun idea for this kind of game.

4factions one war I don't know if this is posible, but it will be a good idea make a league where u choose a faction and u compite for gain points killing others players and elevate u faction and u own personal rank into top wining certains prices in the end of league. Ejemple of winning points : 1 point for killing a player with -5 - 10 score 2 for kill 11-20 score.. etc.. the players defeats will lose points at cap of -5 in the same system.. if u got 12 u lose 2 too can implement specials armors or skills that only can equip with certain points. it should too be some anti-exploit system that can't win points reskilling guys
Hello I didn't read all the 21 pages (!) but I really like the "infinite dungeon" idea. This is so roguelike :)

Another league idea : a "treasure hunter / graal" league. In Single Player Diablo 2, you could use utilities as "Fara" to know how much distinct unique/set/runic you found. The winners should be the players who have the highest % items found.
Turbo League - Everything is sped up x 2 for those with little free time...
I.E. movement, attack speed and such of players and monsters..

"Run To Freedom"

All monsters deal 5x damage, there are triple the amount of monsters, and you deal no damage (Hardcore only)

All you have to do is run like a maniac (With no equipment) and see how far you get.

The first player to reach the last checkpoint (Or W/E - I'm not in the Beta, so don't know waypoint specifics :p), or the furthest after a 24-hour time period is the winner.

If someone wins too quickly, the monster quantity can be scaled up for future RtF leagues.
Caution: Typo's can get you banned :P

How about a league where players can opt in to playing as a random monster in another person's instance instead of their own character? They would spawn as a Unique monster with a small group of minions and could kill other monsters to get loot in order to get stronger before the other player finds them.
Survival of the Fittest -

Certain time duration - with winners of outcomes obtaining elite items - hardcore setting

Basically, the world of PoE becomes a free for all with a certain amount of players, champion monsters, quests, and bosses. Each entity starts at the same level and levels according to their actions. For instance a player levels up while a champion monster levels up as well. They meet each other and fight and the winner continues to level up while the loser permanently dies. Of course you will need to enable the monsters to attack each other (plus add weaker monsters for them to kill) or add a system that allows them to level. This model of course is balanced so outcomes are randomized.

Example - Act 1 - 6 players - 6 champion monsters - plus bosses

First player dies to Brutus which makes him level up tremendously.

Second player kills third player which allows him to level up tremendously.

Fourth player levels up, completes quests, and is killed by Brutus which makes him the highest level in this particular game ATM.

Fifth player meets a higher leveled second player and dies to him late in the game.

Sixth player dies to Merviel late in the game.

At this point Second player is the only human player alive. All champion monsters are died and Brutus and Merviel are alive.
Second player has to kill Merviel to level significantly enough to even face Brutus. Second player killed Merviel and Brutus and Brutus drops a very rare item.

END of GAME

Of course the strategy is to level in the most efficient manner possible and stay ahead of the pack. Pick your fights - the higher the risk, the higher the reward.

The winner obtains a very rare item of significant value. Probably an item that allows your to re roll an item and obtain significant increases in terms of mods (the prize can be dabated). The bigger the Survival of the Fittest match the bigger the prize (duration, i.e. act1 - act4 or just act1).

** the only tweaking grindinggeargames would have to perform is allowing monsters to level, adding a few specific monsters, maybe extra quests, and setting the parameters for the Survival of the Fittest mode.

You could also figure out a formula that allows monsters to level in relationship to time elapsed. The longer the game the harder the monsters? Might require earlier PVP for PVE progression? Might require co-op PVE?

As you can see in the Survival of the Fittest mode, it is up to the players and parameters of the game to be successful and it always allows for a randomized ending.
