[Official] WINE info thread

Hi

thanks for your interest: my apologies for delayed reply, work intervened over last few days and nights :(

Now I get surprises.

I went to try the intervention you described, but first to get the trace.

There was one K/Ubuntu update (including a kernel) and a new download for the latest PoE patch.

I launched into the character that was failing - and it now works perfectly and I can't get a trace!

Well, there's still some graphics issues, particularly in underground caves (textures missing on floor, and a weird rotating plane coming from approaching monsters, something I have not seen before). But otherwise it's working.

Meanwhile PoE on my Windows studio machine (which I installed just to get the odd level in after work), which was working last night, has failed entirely after the last update (it's only got Intel 4600 graphic because it's used for audio work).

So, I can't give you a trace and don't need to apply any changes - unless you think I do. All of which is very irritating. But at least it's (mostly) working.

Eeeek!

The game is still very unstable for me.

Hello. I am using 64 bit Antergos(Arch Linux distro), AMD A10 Processor with ATI DDR3 2g graphic card. I manage to run the game, but sometimes i have this weird bug. When targeting monsters or other people, instead of just highlighting them, the whole screen becomes colored. I can fix it if i restart the game several times, but i was wondering if anyone know how to fix it. Thanks

Whoa, what driver are you using? That looks like driver or hardware failure. What's the GPU temperature like when this is happening?
Does anyone else get glitched out shadow effects when in The Submerged Passage tileset? No problem with shadows disabled.

Similar here, Since the patch PoE invariably crashes after about 15 seconds or so logged in. Wine 1.5.28

Same here. I hope that when wine 1.8 stable is released, GGG will at least test briefly with it.

It's really weird, I had the problem a month ago, but after a lot of fiddling it went away, I think after a small client patch too. I don't really want to fiddle with more stuff to see if I can get it to crash again.

Currently not crashing with:

Gentoo Linux, nVidia 340.93, Wine 1.7.54 Staging (only EAX checked) in 32-bit prefix, winetricks -q vcrun2010 d3dx9_42 d3dcompiler_43 riched20 usp10

Same crash regardless of testing environment.

Seems to be an issue with ntdll.dll. I see a few more people are having similar issues. Game was stable and running well before latest patch. The only change was when the game patched. Since then, I have reinstalled wine in a fresh prefix a few times. First to test the old install files in a fresh prefix. Since then I have tested by redownloading Content.ggpk in a fresh prefix. Doing a complete re-installation of the game in another new prefix. I have tried older wine versions that I have had solid performance with in new prefixes. I have rolled back drivers to versions I knew were stable as well. I have tried emulating winxp, windows 7, windows 8, windows 8.1, windows 10, all in fresh prefixes.

Here are the winetricks script I use:

winetricks -q vcrun2010 d3dx9_42 d3dcompiler_43 riched20 usp10

The only other changes I have made are running openal32 as builtin to fix a sound issue introduced in wine version 1.7.53. I have tried with and without csmt. csmt has run stable on my machine for months. I have tried --nosound. Nothing works.

Again, I have had no issues for the last year running PoE.

Since the patch I randomly crash, sometimes almost instantly, sometimes after playing for 20-30 minutes, sometimes after opening stash or opening vendor to sell.
