What Bad effects can Vaal Orb have on 20/20 gem?

im thinking about trying out a Vaal Orb on my 20 gem to bring it to lvl 21

but i would like to know if risk can be calculated in other words

what bad can happen, can i lose all quality and a lvl or just lose all quality or just lose a level of gem?

You could lose a level and have to relevel it, or the worst case, you lose quality. And I've seen at least -10% quality happen.

If it's a gem with a Vaal version (such as Spectral Throw) then it can turn it into that, which can be pretty devastating.

I know that level can drop by -1. But i am not sure whether you can level it back to lvl 20 or lvl 19 becomes max level.

you can relevel it to 20.

evidence: vaal gems are corrupted, and you can level them to 20

Lose a level: not end of the world you can re-level it
Lose quality: RIP gem

Only use vaal on auras or other gems which don't need quality unless you want to gamble.

The payoff of lvl21 gems is worth gambling on. It's a big power jump and it lasts for the rest of your characters existence. If you happen to get screwed... well levele a new gem and try again :D
