A detailed look at Looting and Respecs
" If its the same amount of loot in either system then it is balanced. It is simply a playstyle choice. If you enjoy FFA then you can do it and have the ADDED benefit of being able to earn MORE loot than you would normally get by yourself. There is no need to penalize people playing in a non competitive system. The ONLY downside needed to partying with other players is that the mosnters themselves are tougher. And no don't say that this would be unbalanced because FFA people would then have two downsides. FFA people would be choosing that option because they enjoy it and because they have a chance at getting more loot than playing by themselves. I stil say what I did the first time I got here. There is no good reason to not have looting options. I have never ever seen one. Standard Forever

Worldbreaker, you are trying really hard to prove that instanced loot is providing unfair advantage..but it's just not true.. it's self balancing mechanism.. yes..loot which drops for you it's your and only yours..but you are out of luck if you want more loot.. you just can't unless other players will let you loot at their items..
FFA system is more hostile, it's true..but it's also very scavenger friendly and of course..ninja friendly..yes you are competing with others..yet, you have chance to get more loot.. and of course.. loot which noone wants..you can just freely get in FFA game..in instanced loot system..unless it's your..you just can't.. These are two different loot systems..there is no real advantage in either of these compared to other..yes..loot is distributed differently.. and arguably.. in FFA system, there is more loot gathered overall, but in the end..it's just playstyle issue ..someone prefers FFA, someone instanced.. that's it. |

Over in the suggestions subforum I made a thread that details what one possible instanced loot user interface with a PoE style might look like: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/95930#p1013235
Now take a look at that and tell me exactly how using that interface makes the game easier than the current interface? It simply makes public instanced partying the same as friendly FFA partying. No advantages. |

Firstly the premise of the OP is flawed. Lets say loot is made totally free for all. Player D has 25ms latency and plays melee, player E has 250ms latency and plays ranger. Guess who gets all the loot?
Currently the timer is set up that it is about 1 second + the time it would take you to walk to it. Currently feel that the timer could be doubled, it would remove some of the ninja looting stress in public parties. In fact that could be the fix there. Double the loot timer in public parties, leave as is or even remove loot timer in private parties. Respecs- totally disagree with this ever being added, for completely different reasons to the OP. Building a character in this game is part of the fun, same as it was in D2. In D2 you could make poison dagger necro, summoner necro, Bspear or Bspirit necro, poison nova + CE + golem necro. Here it is very much similar. So the time it takes to make and build the character you get attached to it, the character has personality, respec points allow fixing small things or making small changes and that is good. D3 characters had no personality or character, you could respec on a whim, every wizard was basically the same as every other. |

" First.. I don't want free respec to be added to PoE .. so don't get me wrong.. But I also feel that "every wizard was basically the same as every other" is used too much out of context.. I understand reasoning behind it.. but arguably..thanks to free respec.. there is more diversity in D3 than in PoE..because people are not afraid to experiment.. Keep in mind..I didn't play D3 for 2-3 months at least.. but when I was playing, meeting two similar wizards (or any other character) was very very rare.. actually.. I felt that people are really trying to experiment and I met so many different builds in D3..much more than in PoE for example.. Maybe it's because different builds in D3 are really different and easy to spot.. in PoE.. many builds are so similar ..and it's hard to see if this bow ranger is build around attack speed or critical hits etc.. |
