New to POE and Community? READ!
" This is an Indy game. Created by a vary small group of developers who are looking to create a game that THEY want to play because they are part of the 'dieing breed'. This game is not marketed to the majority of people. It is marketed to players like YOU. " Most peoples attention span wont let them get beyond the first page. How can we identify and extract the information that new players really NEED in order to become part of the contributing community? I hate to pass this task to other people but I don't have the tools necessary to create easy to read website that still highlights the complicated mechanics. New players, feel free to ignore posts like the first one in this thread ^_^
Gonna copy paste something I wrong in a different thread that applies to this one: I think i'm going to steal a quote from Brian Ward (community manager over at Runic Games) and post it here. While I don't claim to speak for Chris & the other developers, I get the feeling they would agree with this. People really need to remember that Chris and the folks at GGG are pretty smart cookies. No matter WHAT ANYONE suggests, they've shown you all that they're not about to cripple the game and ruin all the hard work and effort they've put into it by adding features without really thinking them through. Give them a bit more credit, they've earned it, I think. This has more to do with how to treat people in general. "When people come here to post their ideas, it is essential that we in the community are welcoming and receptive, because: a) it's a polite thing to do; and b) because they may be able to contribute new insights that we've never considered before. Ideas may arrive with some assembly required, and the person delivering them may be on the defensive, but the seed of a new idea is a very precious thing because everything in our world begins the same way: as a fleeting, unformed thought. As a community, there (should be) some genuine efforts to try to catch all the good ideas and be respectful of those who bring them." You may voice disagreement with other people without name calling. When someone makes a post, you can read it, offer constructive feedback, and be friendly. However, disagreement with a person does not grant the right to stop treating him or her as a person. Genuine respect is the core element of a healthy community. At the end of the day, all we're really interested in is having fun;the forums should be a fun place for friends to talk about the things they enjoy together. This discussion forum is about Path of Exile. It is not about your rating of someone else's intelligence, or a comment on how you think someone's appearance affects their reasoning, or place to slam people who have played other games, or to play the 'I've been in the game longer, i'm more important than you' game. Let's remember why we're here when we're discussing the things we enjoy. This community is your most valuable asset and everyone should want to ensure that it remains friendly, vibrant, and diverse for many years to come. |

While I don't agree with the overall tone of the OP thread, I agree with a lot of his points. I also don't like some of the personal attacks in this thread, but well....
Guys, this is the game the devs want. They have made a ton of compromises over the past year, mostly from player feedback. They attempt to please the community, while also keeping their vision true. The game is the way it is for a reason. It is supposed to be hard, think of the storyline... We are all a bunch of criminal exiles doing our best to survived after being banished to a harsh world. Most of the game mechanics make this pretext feel even more emersive. So, in general, there are a lot of tweaks coming during Beta, but most of the complaints are getting out of control, as the OP pointed out. Personally, there are ways around the things many people don't like. For instance, I don't like the FFA loot, so I only group with people I've met that share my mentality on sharing loot and not ninja looting other people's drops. The Dev's designed this game to be hard and cutthroat, it is what it is. This game does not hold your hand like certain other not to be named ARPGS. It is a world of survival of the fittest. So, while I always recommend posting ideas on support, I also agree that people need to stop complaining in General. That's what the suggestion thread is for. Anyway that's just my 2 cp. This game is supposed to be hard, and most players like it that way. Plus there are work arounds to many of the things that people don't like (ie my example of I only group with people that share loot) <3 Sonata *edit sorry my spelling sucks today, and actually usually everyday* Game needs monkey pets.
