[SOLVED] Random GFX-driver CRASHES - FPS Freeze2Login (780 GTX)

Diablo 3, Battlefield 4, World of Tanks, Dayz, Bioshock Infinite
3D Marks (various Versions)

running without problems (ok, DayZ with the known issues because its alpha early access)

If this really is a hardware problem then one of the weirdest i've ever witnessed.

I got the information that my friend (with same gfx-card ans no probs) uses the steam install.
Maybe I try this at last.
excuse my english - i am from sauerkraut & bratwurst land ;)
first driver-crash with the fresh steam-install...

this crash the reset was fast enough so I came back into the current game and wasn't logged out.
I will see/check another crash.

same windows event.
excuse my english - i am from sauerkraut & bratwurst land ;)
could play for another 90+ min (various areas)

then again the driver crash.
this time again 'long enough' to logout.
excuse my english - i am from sauerkraut & bratwurst land ;)
Does it crash if you leave it at the login screen?

No.
excuse my english - i am from sauerkraut & bratwurst land ;)
the last things to test tonight:
multi threaded <--setting in nvidia control center to "off" instead of auto.

btw: running a memtest yesterday without errors.

then the time is ticking for a solution.
1.) fix this crashes = some n1 skins from the microtrans-shop
2.) no fix = reaper of souls ...

i would prefer option 1.

it's up to you guys *blackmail-mode* :P
excuse my english - i am from sauerkraut & bratwurst land ;)
still a crash.

I think it has something to do with new FX loaded into the gfxcard RAM.

Is there a possibility to set another preload behavior?

as I had my last crash my mate had the fps graph open and noticed a massive fps spike (down) in the exact moment i crashed.
this was most likely a new fx.

with the differnce that his hardware setup managed those unstable fps, but on my setup the driver crash.

I have a pretty similar setup to you, It shouldn't be a hardware issue unless it's something specific to the manufacturer you have (and that's almost impossible to prove without replacing parts) but you never know, weirder things have happened.

I'm running a i7-4770k on a z89 board also so that's another similarity (well.. mostly..)
I'm running on 32GB RAM - got it set at it's XMP profile just now
I'm running my i7-4770k at 4.6Ghz
I'm running my 780's at 1060/~7Ghz
I've got PoE on a Vector 256GB (2 drives in RAID 0)
I'm not running it via STEAM (Have you tried the standalone client?)

I'm running the graphics options in the Nvidia control panel at whatever settings give the best graphics (I've messed with the settings using nvidia inspector also but that was just for Skyrim so PoE shouldn't be loading that profile).

When I get home in a few hours from work I'll post up which driver revisions I'm running for software/drivers we share.

First I would suggest you do a fresh install of PoE (making sure all the folders are gone) with the stand alone client onto a different physical drive on your computer (if you have one). You'll also want to make sure you don't have anything running that can interfere with PoE (X-Fire, Skype, Steam.. anything like that.. just stop it all to make sure)

I would also suggest setting your Power Options in windows to the highest setting and then going in and making sure Hard Drives etc are not turning off after x minutes.

You could try to run PoE as administrator or with compatibility settings enabled and also with the switches -nosound and -swa and see if they have any impact.

I would also start the game in Windowed Mode and run a tool where you can track your GPU's VRAM and Power usage and core speeds etc (MSI Afterburner for example) and do the same with Windows Resource Monitor for your system RAM. You're looking to see if PoE always crashes at certain limits (for example when it approaches 2GB of usage on the system RAM or when it approaches a certain limit on your GPU's VRAM). You'll also be looking to see if the Power delivered to the GPU spikes or drops at all (EVGA's Precision X program has an option called 'K-Boost' that forces the card to stay at the same clock speed, this might help things.)

If none of this is helping it's leading me to believe it's a piece of hardware although which one will be hard to track down and you'll need to resort to just swapping bits and pieces out. See if you can get a hold of a different GPU and try it for a day/few hours. You could also try with just one stick of RAM in the machine. Just because other games work ok doesn't mean the hardware is ok, it just means they aren't putting the machine in the same situation. I did notice in your dxdiag you have software in there from Creative for a Recon3D sound card, you running one or is that the chip your motherboard is using? If it is then the game has known issues with creative drivers/software.

[Sorry I'm throwing lots of stuff at you here and realistically not much of it has much chance of helping but at this point you're going to have to be very thorough to make sure you don't overlook something - I'll throw up which version of the Nvidia drivers I'm running and my control panel settings for you when I get home. I'll throw up a dxdiag as well just in case anyone spots any major differences]

Here's my dxdiag, just for the sake of it. I'm running 334.67 for my gpu drivers. Settings in the nvidia control panel are at the default (I just reset it).

I'm not running it via STEAM (Have you tried the standalone client?)

I tested most of my fix-tries with the standalone version (before and after my OS-reinstall)
The steam-version was just another attempt

First I would suggest you do a fresh install of PoE (making sure all the folders are gone) with the stand alone client onto a different physical drive on your computer (if you have one). You'll also want to make sure you don't have anything running that can interfere with PoE (X-Fire, Skype, Steam.. anything like that.. just stop it all to make sure)

Except of changing the drive I tried fresh installs, with the standalone and with the steam. pack-check was done too.
I could test @ my SSD-system-drive tonight.

I would also suggest setting your Power Options in windows to the highest setting and then going in and making sure Hard Drives etc are not turning off after x minutes.

You could try to run PoE as administrator or with compatibility settings enabled and also with the switches -nosound and -swa and see if they have any impact.

Done it, Admin mode, -swa. But not the XP comp-mode. maybe I give that a try too.
I even deactivated my onboard (yes, it is the creative onboard version of the recon3D) to make sure it is no creative-issue.

I would also start the game in Windowed Mode and run a tool where you can track your GPU's VRAM and Power usage and core speeds etc (MSI Afterburner for example) and do the same with Windows Resource Monitor for your system RAM.

I monitored values with OC Guru 2 and with the nvidia inspector.
Couldn't notice any special behavior.
Only a small downspike but that is from the driver reset and NOT the reason for the driver crash.
The crash itself occurs with max boost aswell as on different clocks.
But I OCed and underclocks too, gave more voltage. etc.
Used no-vsync to run at permanent full-boost.
all this doesn't help.

If it is then the game has known issues with creative drivers/software.

creative thing see above.
RAM was tested intense with memtest (i know it is no 100% test for working with PoE)
But to be honest I even don't want to know that I have a PoE-incompatible RAM or other hardware because what would it help?
sending such hardware back would just pass all the quality checks @vendor and i would just get the same hardware returned. or should i advice them to run a 3 hour PoE test in merciless ??? ;)

THX for ur effort!
I was running a 334. but it was not the .67 as I remember correct.
But I tested 4 driver versions till now.

I will check another drive first.
then the compatibility mode.
I have an old ATI 4850 lying around, but that would require another reinstall, to be sure everything is installed correct.
Btw: I am really sure it must be the gfx-card.
Maybe my version is just a little unstable in a way that only PoE engine accesses.
But on the other side, do you think battlefield 4 stresses the hardware less?

very frustrating all this 5h1+
excuse my english - i am from sauerkraut & bratwurst land ;)
