Books!

Two of my favourite series have already been mentioned, The Wheel of Time and A Song of Ice and Fire. To add to that I'd like to mention The Black Company.

It tells the tale of a mercenary company in a fantasy world. The story is told mostly by the company's annalist and doctor. It's very gritty and kind of dark.

Some of the books mentioned earlier in this thread look good. I'll have to look them up. Thanks!
Doubt anyone has heard of these, but I think you should read Incarnations of Immortality books by Piers Anthony or The Death Gate Cycle series by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman. If you haven't heard of the Dragonlance universe you should check it out too.

One of my favorite books is 'The Road' by Cormac McCarthy.
It isn't written like any book you might have read before so it won't appeal to everyone.
It's a great read.

Did they make a movie out of that? A dark story of a father and son in a post apocalyptic world?

My personal favorites are space operas and just finished two all time favorites recently by the same author.

Peter F. Hamilton

The first of the two would be the

Commonwealth universe series starting with
Pandora's Star

And the second being

Confederation Universe Starting with
The Reality Dysfunction

Both just amazing series if you love space and technology.
This man is a terrific writer. Really nails vivid detail into the environments he creates(are some of the environments are off the scale of normal imagination) as well as builds very real personality into characters you grow to love.

I would highly recommenced these to any space buffs.

Wow Taric! You have a great taste in books!

I also loved the Sword of Truth, Wheel of Time, and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series. In addition one of my favorites is the "His Dark Materials" Trilogy by Philip Pullman.
