Because instead of using both you can use one and a dps gem (like added fire damage or added physical damage).

Life leech can work with AoE too.

He has it right though.

Life Leech
Pros: Good for single target due to healing more than life on hit in this situation
Cons: Not going to tank a pack of mobs that can do more than 20% of your life per second

Life on hit
Pros: Instant life heal, letting you bypass Vaal's Pact in your build, much safer
Cons: Terrible for single target Blood Magic because of the cap on how much it can heal

Life leech can work with AoE too.

Yes it does work, but no where near aswell.

lets say your health pool is 1000, with life leech nomatter how much damage u do, u can only heal 200.

With life on hit, i can easily heal back 1000 with 1 shot of lightning arrow. (I can easy heal 2500 health with just 1 shot of lightning arrow with a life on hit gem, EASILY)

Life leech isn't instant. Life leech applies a life regeneration buff which is capped at 20% of your maximum HP. So, if you have 1k HP, that means when you hit someone with life leech, it'll grant you 200 life regeneration till the stolen amount is "regenerated". If you steal 600 life for example, you'll gain 3 seconds of 200 life regeneration per second buff. Vaal Pact turns this effect into an instant one.

Life on hit is instant on the other hand.

You heal 200 of your hp back from 1000 if you hit the enemy once.
