PVP and Betting
" id seen a few games where they tried to implement a wager system and it never works out because of the scumbags. also, if there were a lot of scumbagging....then itd just be another headache for ggg to deal with...so why even go there. only way a wager system could work is if its a neutral setting, say a newly introduced pvp honor points system or whatever...for killing people... that way, youre not directly losing value as far as items go...but also, your time/efforts in pvp accumulate having such an incentive removes you 1 step away from actually losing your shirt and offers a barrier of protection, for both parties. if they introduced a way to use the pvp points in something (be it cosmetics, or something) then it would add value to the points "The problem with scrubcore is that it is full of of scrubs"

This actually sounds fun.
I doubt someone would bet their real gear, considering that's what they need to use to PvP to begin with. >_> "so you can see who has more PvPenis" - Chris Wilson

I think this idea is amazing. So much so, in fact, that in the past I've submitted it in the Suggestions forum.
As far as scumbaggery goes, I agree it would be an issue. However, the vast majority of "I got scammed" stuff in trading isn't real scams, just sore loser butthurt; in the same way, 90% of "scumbaggery" under this system would be sore loser butthurt and not really worthy of investigation. The other 10% does bother me, though, especially since any kind of GGG moderation would have a ridiculous signal-to-noise ratio. Still, even completely unmoderated, this would make the game better. Implement it first, worry about how to deal with the (nonimaginary) scumbags later. One last quibble: don't hold items in escrow, just forbid the players from leaving the contest until completion; add warning dialogues if necessary. This way players can bet the gear they're actually wearing. Stupid? Almost certainly. But totally badass; there's nothing like playing for pinks. So allow it. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted. Betting sounds very good.
Scambags part is a valid concern, and can be easily ovecome by applying a "Confirm Opponent Gear" mouse hover over opponent's current gear/gems and 'accept' system (very similar to current trade). People can not lose with crap gear and then switch to godly at a good bet. However, the real problem is that PvP mechanics sucks in PoE. Actually there is no PvP mechanics. Most players can kill each other in 1-2 seconds. Not much tactic or anything. They would need to scale down player damage by probably 1/10 to make armor/life values mean anything in PvP. But this would lead to CoC and flicker 100k+ dps builds to dominate. So I dont see how PvP could actually work in PoE. |

Sounds like a solid idea.
The arguments about cheating sound ridiculous. You either agree to participate with current wagers or decline. Only room for error is the matches participants ignorance/arrogance, which falls solely on said participants. IGN:Flickfrap

Staking would be wonderful. Too bad that it'd be rampant with DoS or some crap.

" posts like this make me think it would be an especially good idea. oh no, someone tricked someone else! how "shady" and terrible! definitely not suitable for wraeclast. +1 for op |

Anyone here played Cabal?
Honour points (which are actually useful in some ways) betting based Dmg scaled down (can't remember by how much) etc. |

this is a great idea!!! there is no scamming because it is your item for your opponents item.
so there isn't any win trading scam. sure people can pretend to be bad to up the wager amounts. that happens in pool daily and pool is a great game! the counter to that is to win the small wagers and not bet it all at the end. its just such a great idea and easy to implement too. it suits the capitalism model of wraeclast so much!!! |
