taking a break again, until new league comes out (mapping unsustainable qq thread beware)

High level map drops were buffed recently. Drop rates are fine. I have been keeping track of all 74+ maps (looks like I have done around 100 at a quick glance) and in all cases if you do a large enough sample of maps you will get an greater number of MAP VALUE then you put into it. For instance, if you are doing a 74 map, and you find a 76 map, that counts as 4 lvl 74 maps in terms of value since a lvl 76 is worth 2 exalt and a lvl 74 map is worth 10 chaos. The net value of your maps will increase, I have determined this beyond any doubt. Plus, you find lower level maps (which have some value), and all the loot you receive from the maps, including currency rares and uniques. In this study I did these maps were all alched, 73+ were chiseled and had 80% or more item quantity after chiseling and chaosing.
It isn't even that hard to get into high level maps anymore since you can buy 72 maps for about 2 chaos, which is dirt cheap since you will automatically recoup your map cost in currency dropped. And doing those maps will produce 73 and 74 maps for you. So just do like 30 lvl 72 maps, then you can start adding 73 maps once you have at least like 15 saved up. Rinse and repeat. Once you get to doing 74 maps (stop doing 72s at this point) you will start accumulating 75 and 76 maps and those are worth a lot. You will be building up value in maps, the same way a homeowner has assets invested in his home. Supplement your map drops by purchasing maps, whatever level you can afford. I have found 74 maps to be not too expensive at 10 chaos a pop but if you can't afford 74s then 73s are only like 4 chaos these days. |

76 maps are ~30 chaos, or 1.5 ex, not 2 ex. |

Instead of buying chisels to chisel 70's, shoudln't you just buy higher lvl maps?
I'm a forum warrior, i was born to post, raised to defend my league. Now my post has been removed, chained and exiled by mods who Ban. Ban is my brother; i do not fear it. I see it in the eyes of men and beasts that i troll. It will take me to play the actual game when i am ready and i am not ready.

Spoiler
At least I lasted longer than the 30 guys on my friends list who started Nemesis with me. I'll be back in the future if something is done about drop rates, crafting, and map availability. Last edited by nGio#1658 on Jan 20, 2014, 2:23:45 AM

I don't feel like maps are an issue under 74. Moving up into and beyond 74, maybe 73, is a jump. It takes time and currency, and luck. But once you get into the 90s, if you play solo, maps become impossible to continue with (as you need to do 76+ to level at all) unless you get some insane unique or rare to drop and make tons of currency.

Even a solo player may sustain a pool of 75-78. But game becomes a second job, if not first. And trading is absolutely necessary. The more you play, the more time in trade chat have to be spent. To a point when fun is gone and game slowly becomes a hard, unrewarding work. The more time and efforts are invested, the more unrewarding it feels. To the point you keep on playing just and only to sustain the map pool, every sweet item you get brings no fun or thoughts of how it can be used, but calculations of how much it cost and how fast it could be sold. A ticket for the next map. It's the point where you have to stop and rethink what the fuck are you doing...

" Seems like there is much trading involved in your calculations... I can accept that traders will be more welthy that people that just kill monsters ; but it's not really acceptable imo in a "hardcore arpg" that traders are the only one who have access to the hardest monsters. I play solo, try to trade a little but can't do much (because it's fucking boring and I don't want to feel like i'm at work). I played a dozen lvl 72+ map, I always 20% qual them, then chaos them until good quality + pack size, and I never could sustain them. Always had to go back farming 69 or even 68 maps. Never could go higher than 75 either (and only 1 of those). It's really strange, "hardcore" rpg but I'm not allow to face hard monsters, I must spend all my time killing weak monsters that have 14 less levels than me... Dunno guys, I have never had so many maps before. Those 72 & 73 are clogging the stash and 74 are not interesting anymore, since there are juicy 76+ to run.
I never traded for maps and I play solo. Ofc I have no aspirations to level to 100, because the leveling curve and death penalty beyond 90 is just idiotic.. I hit 90 and that's about it. Maping is a lot more fun when you can run suicidal mods, and not avoid everything because of XP loss fear. When night falls
