I do agree, summoners were fine even without CoD. But CoD gives something that summoners didn't have prior to that gem's release, the ability to compete with other endgame builds, specifically on clear speed. The one thing that summoners don't have is the ability to scale the minions performance with gear apart from minion specific uniques. While I agree with you on the aspect that summoners are fine as it is, a lot of other builds outperforms summoners significantly after those builds got pass certain gear threshold. Here's one example, even with necro aegis and safell with L20 gems, temple piety could still wipe out my minions on certain occasions, unless I do specific purity setup, that issue never occurs on my other chars.

i think it's the opposite:
some builds are OVERtuned, making the game a joke and not a challenge (aegis immortal tanks, 400k dps flickers, coc discharge, etc) sure all builds have their ups and downs, but SOME builds (esp melee builds) feel so overtuned and safe nowadays that with enough gear the game seems like a cakewalk.

You don't own a summoner, that much is obvious.

I own a melee class. Here's what happens for 75+ bosses.


1) I hit 3 for Movespeed Flask.
2) I hit 5 for Armor + Armor % Flask.
3) I hold down Q for double strike. It's on a 4L, not even a 6L.
4) Boss dies.

Oh, so, so hard. Woe is me, I had to buy a 450 pDPS axe to achieve that. If I want more clear speed I'll just toss 15 ex on a 530dPS one, because, hey, my character actually scales.

Hence I shall repeat: You don't own a summoner, that much is obvious.

Uh, that's why I said I agreed with you and you basically just said the same thing...

So much hate on summoner build when there Iron reflexes, block cap, flicker etc.

Summoners:

- bring lag/desync/fps drop
- are stinky abusers (only! hue.)
- casually walk and stuff dies
- kill stuff too fast
- gear only for MF


WTF guys don't you have any other emo kid to kick around in your high school PoE?

God forbid some people have some fun in this stupid RNG/grind game.

I'm not even starting on the shortcomings of the summoner. Like with any other build people did what they could to make it strongest possible.

And I assume devs didn't rush to fix those abuses because they saw summoners don't have much in term of scaling their killing power except gems level and some powerful spectres.

I find snapshoting and gear swaping a lame game feature to make myself stronger.

Hope they don't pull a CI+vaal pact+ghost reaver 'balance' on summoner build.

Summoners should be more fun to play if new skills don't disappoint.

It would be awfully nice if they gave us a skill similar to what those overlords used in D3 act5, you whip one of your minions into a frenzy making it run to a random enemy and selfdestruct.

Or sacrifice one minion to empower others 'commissaire style'.

Or some battlefield control stuff, as forcing enemies target one of your minions but making it resilient and able to reflect damage. And it could be some meaningful numbers unlike punishment, because it wouldn't be useable on other players.
Wish the armchair developers would go back to developing armchairs.
