I miss my nukes...
" I see your point. I have played d2 myself quite alot, although my fav class were poison tankozon, so it was not such an issue... Regarding POE, spamming fireballs or ice spears, or heavy strikes etc. does not help that matter either. HS sounds good and powerful at first, but after a hundreds and hundreds of strikes, it became just a regular noise, one of many. Last edited by Kligan#2575 on Dec 3, 2013, 3:40:28 PM

What if you could control the rhythm?
What if instead of attacking 4 times a seconds with a set 0.25 APS, you'd attack 3 times, and the third attack would be 100% more powerful and 100% slower? Like a rhythm slider for every skill gem or something? |

The idea of long cast time nukes and cool downs sounds fine for me, but their balancing would have to be done in a much different way than main skills.
For example, how many of your characters truly have room for another skill? For me to even consider using a secondary nuke, it would have to be effective at 3L or smaller. The major issue with spamming is that most characters have room for only one 5-6L, and because of the way links work and the amount we get, running more than one main skill is simply inefficient. Having a second skill 4L'd can be fun, but it is rarely useful. So, first and foremost, this new class of secondary skill would have to either, A) Gain no effect from Supports, B) Gain very little effect from supports, C) Gain full effect and yet somehow be useful by itself without being overpowered. Other than those concerns, I'd very much like to see some skill variation. I can't even play in public games anymore, because the constant spam of attacks from every single build is just... boring. I hadn't really thought about it until I read this thread, but the fact that everybody from wizards to warriors spams one skill as fast as they can constantly really shallows the gameplay for me. Nice topic. Team Won

" Lately, GGG has been taking PoE in the opposite direction, requiring more socket supports of what used to be good, 3-socket secondary skills: RIP Viper Strike & Poison Arrow |

" And that is why i want to keep it "alive", so maybe folks from GGG will see it and think about the solution. |

" I have a built with dual flame totem, curse with 5 different traps on my lower bar. It is fun, but I am in that bit from level 17 gems to level 20 where the dps isn't scaling alongside my character level. The character itself has less survival, part of its survival comes from the totems, it works best in 2-3 man parties though, but can also solo a lot of content. It hasn't reached full potential or right sockets yet, but if it sounds interesting I could show you what I did if you are interested. You are right about the availability of sockets. I kind of went ahead on that thought in my first reply where I said that passives could count twice as effective on these skills. This means you do not have freebie use of it, since they also would be 3 times as weak without the right passives. Just something that could work with it, but might not be an elegant solution. Still more elegant than explaining the difference between the projectile and bow attack ;) Part of the use of such skills though is that they could function as alternatives to enduring cry. You might not need cast when damage taken if you build in X way which also allows you to make use of this "Y" utility spell. It should not be mandatory it should be an option. This is the most important aspect to get right and solve your socket issue. Last edited by Ozgwald#5068 on Dec 4, 2013, 5:28:35 AM

" Would be completely broken with discharge. You could get 100 charges back with one or two casts. Disregard witches, aquire currency.

" Well, surgeon-less flasks do already exist. SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

" And die horribly to reflect, just like current crit dischargers except it's less reliable (to get max charges out of one cast you have to use warlord's mark and pull mobs). Last edited by Novalisk#3583 on Dec 4, 2013, 6:42:38 AM
