What about a 3 nodes cluster you HAVE to pass through to get AoF.

2 small nodes : +1% max fire resistance, +10% Fire Damage
Disciple of the Flame (Notable) : +3% max Fire resistance, 50% Reduced ignite duration on self

Doesn't sound too OP to me, while still giving a real benefit

No, it needs to be behind it, otherwise anyone would take the +1%*2 max fire resist.

I have a char using this passive, I don't spend a lot of time though, but I like it. I was already going for a bow-burn build anyway, even before release tbh =).
SSF is not and will never be a standard for balance, it is not for people entitled to getting more without trading.

I certainly don't want Avatar of Fire to be OP in any capacity; that would ruin the fun of it.

I just can't understand the logic of having a character who is literally the manifestation of the element fire, but doesn't have any capacity, to resist fire.

I don't mean to labor the point *too* much, but as a Marauder; it's possible to spec directly into Avatar of Fire whilst only gaining 90 strength, 10 intelligence and 14% increased life.

No resistances needed.

I like the idea of having let's say 3 +2% max fire resist beyond it.
It would be significant, and still only niche build could use it, and it would make sense ( while not being OP, imho ).

Not suggesting that it should be a total immunity like CI, but something would make sense.

Edit: What would make sense to me would be a cluster of Fire resistance nodes before it, perhaps called Fire mastery and so on, they would increase your resistance to fire, showing your progression in understanding the element; which then leads to the ultimate Avatar of Fire where you've wholly devoted yourself to it.

Crown of Eyes optional.

I'd like to see Avatrs for Lightning and Cold. I know I know homgeneity and all that... But they're fun concepts and I'd like to see more of them.

I use avatar of fire in my nemesis build.

Infernal Blow + Avatar of Fire converts the full 100% of your potential physical damage in to fire which means 100% of your physical damage is guaranteed to benefit from ALL +ele AND +physical mods. With +ele gear (such as the elem damage mace) and good node choice you get SIGNIFICANT increases to damage doing this.

Fire Penetration + Flammability overcome fireresistant monsters easily.
