Why is Dominus' Touch of God Merc hitting me for so much? Way more than others are reporting.

If I get hit by the Touch of god in merc, it hits me for around 3500-4000 damage, with 81 all resists. I am not shock stacked when this happens. Everyone else seems to be reporting somewhere closer to 2K. This is on my domination character so I get to experiment with how much he hits for, and 9 out of 10 times it is 3500+ damage. On the 10th time, it does nothing.

I am wearing an abyssus, with 44% more phys damage taken, so is a huge component of this attack physical? Even if I pop a granite (gain 10K more armor) before the strike hits (but after he has started the animation) I still take the same damage. Is this a case like vaal where the damage is calculated prior to the strike actually hitting, so the granite isn't really doing anything?

If you've been hit by the touch of god on merc, please tell me how much damage it did to you, and your resists/ armor. Thanks.

I don't know whether the attack has a physical damage component, but you would need to pop the granite before the animation starts - as always.

Why don't you take off the item and test if you take less damage?

I'm really not into the names of enemies, but if the Touch of God is a unique version of an Undying Evangelist, then yes, the damage is physical.

Hmm that's a good idea. I don't really enjoy taking the thing to the face, though, as it is usually lethal, and mostly avoidable.

Still wondering what other people are getting for damage, I need a bigger control group.

Touch of God is Dominus' Ground pound/lightning attack.

You don't need a bigger group, you need a bigger sample size. This is something you can do yourself. The difference here is that if you know your gear and you calculate the damage, you can estimate how much the damage is. It won't matter if it's you or somebody else or whatever. So, get hit by Dominus's fist many times (you'll probably want 15+ of these) to get an average damage for his fist. Then do the same thing without Abyssus on. If part of the attack is physical (even half), these averages should be different enough to determine if part of this attack is physical.

I'd honestly rather not take 15 deaths when other people have surely also been hit by the attack. Thanks for the suggestion, though. If no one else responds I guess I'll go with it.

Just do the tests after your next levelup, this way you won't lose any XP when you die.
Also, remember to dismiss data from touches that killed you, as you cannot know how much they would have hit for if you had sufficient life to survive.

They are one shotting me with 3700-4000 life depending on gear.

The reason I am curious as to what other people are experiencing is because people have a tendency to... exaggerate... in this game. 2000 damage could be 4000 damage. 10000 damage could be 3000 damage. That's the reason for wanting a larger control group, to verify some of the other results I have heard.
