Dischargers having fun with Cast when Damage Taken - Video

Hey there!

Update 1.0.1:
I still use parts of the build, but I dont have time to make videos and descriptions about it, but I can suggest visiting this thread if you still wanna break some poe:

This thread is a description for the video me and my friend, Sipczi made, it can be watched here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otg4y1NGP4g

(Reddit Link)

Parts of the video:
1:58 145% Cells Map
5:38 Minmax, Damage and Frenzy Temple Map Piety
6:10 Minmax, Fleet, Boss Damage Shrine Map start
7:55 Shrine Boss
9:13 4 Cold Snaps self defense only
10:52 A simple reflect map solo, with the Cold Snaps

Sipczi's gear:

Sipczi can't cast any spells himself, because all of his gems are linked to the Cast when Damage Taken gems. When he takes damage all of his skills cast in an order, first the Ice Spear to make him gain charges, the Curse for more damage, and the Discharge for last. Because the CWDT gems allow to cast the spells linked to them unlimited times, they casts them so rapidly that nothing can kill him which is in his Discharge range and doing less damage in one hit than his ES pool size. His build works best in solo, because then all monsters attack him, making a fast clear speed. He had 5.6k ES during all the runs, including the Shrine map, with Discipline aura, and he is also using Grace, or Purity if more resist needed.

My gear:

My build is basicly the Crit Discharger I posted here but with MF gear, thats why it is less tanky, but it is added with 4 Cold Snaps. The 4 Cold snaps can all cast most of the time because I run with Power Charges, which help bypass the cooldown of the cold snap, and thanks to my high crit chance gear, cold snaps also deal critical strikes often, so they get back the Power Charges they spend when bypassing the cooldown. There is still no reason to level the CWDT gem, because it will not increase its damage output, it would only cast it less often with more damage per cast, but with more casts It will more likely freeze the attacking monsters. These Cold Snaps are for mainly defensive purposes, but they do decent damage too.

I did the record of all runs because Sipczi has performance issues on his computer.

In the first part of the video we are running a simple reflect map, where Sipczi is making some loops with his Discharges, because of the reflect. With balanced damage it can be achieved that the caster never dies, and the loops ends only when all monsters die in the pack.

The following maps are showing the tankiness of the build he's using, most of the time he's immortal.

At the part when I solo the Docks you can see that the Cold Snaps are leeching back all of my lost ES, when fed with Power Charges. With this addition I made my character more tanky, and I kept the very good clear speed I had before.

Both of our CWDT setups make the monsters kill themself when they hit us, as we would have a string reflect aura, but I should mention that it only works if the monsters are in the range of our skills.

We hope you enjoyed the video, and we could show the usefullness of the CWDT gem, with some skills that can be even more usefull than the ones that most of the people are using.

Markusz and Sipczi

PS: RNGesus blessed our runs with 1x78, 2x77, 1x76 map drops on the Shrine map, and a Dyadus drop on my reflect map, which are visible on the video : )

that would be me
for piety, I'll need another topaz flask (at least with minmax I do)
don't go to reflect maps if you too have performance issues (my client can't handle so many casts at once, it just crashes)
and what's left out of the post (because I've just though about it recently) is that now I use a low lvl ice nova (so it won't freeze mobs) with the supports seen in the helmet together with elemental equilibrium

passive tree (still under construction):

I'd like to call it Master Exploder, just because.

edit:
after some testing I have come up with a _lot_ better set up

gear:
Spoiler

passive tree

this way I have less armour somewhat, but 6500 es and a lot more resists (and enfeeble, I wouldn't have died on shrine this way)

edit 2:
gear, shock nova for shocks, seperate discharge for straying enemies, DF isn't needed (cast when damage taken works while frozen)
Spoiler

passive tree
with this build my ES is 6571

Yea I thought of this same type of build too. Depending on the level of content you want to do your ES will just have to guard against one shots. Then you can stack a bunch of IIR/IIQ gear.

You could even reserve all your mana for auras since you don't need it. The only thing really that stops me from making a build like this is I'm positive it will get nerfed and then you have a semi useless character.

My original idea for a super cheap MFer was to grab as many ES nodes from the tree you could, go pain attunement ghost reaver.

Blood gem a purity then dual weild red beaks. 230% increased damage. Super cheap.

Wow. Great minds think alike. I have nearly the same identical build but as a Shadow. Haven't gotten my 6L Volls yet. Here is my tree.

Passive Tree Here.

But, why Life leech if you are CI? Is that technically ES Leech? I was thinking Powercharge on Critical there instead.

Ghost Reaver passive, which you've even picked in your own passive tree, makes your life leech apply to energyshield instead... also you'd want Vaal Pact so you dont die to reflect
You're playing in default right? otherwise i strongly recommend you to rethink your build
Dear Mother Of God... This is GLORIOUS!!!

Pity GGG will most likely nerf it...
I'm going to try this ;o
@ColdDrizzle
same idea, different setup. Made solo mapping more fun =D
