I started a new ranger, up to level 25 right now and I'm having serious mana issues. I'm decked out in half decent uniques, getting 130% mana regen from gear and more from my passive tree while running clarity and I still go OOM rapidly. I've tried many skill combination, lightning arrow seems weak even when paired with lmp, elemental hit just seems to consume to much mana? Am I simply missing something? I do have 200% attack speed, so maybe that's not good for this build? (using Quill Rain).

Normal: +40 Life
Cruel: +Attack speed
Merciless: +Passive point

You aren't missing anything. It's just a simple fact that mana is a bitch and unfortunately, you have to struggle with it by using flasks and mana leech gems until you can forget mana and switch to BM gems.

Simply put, sustaining skills on mana is in my opinion a bad idea. Just switch mana off as soon as you can. Before you do it, you might use Burning Arrow instead of EH.

Alright good to know it's expected at least then. What does one need to switch to BM? I've got BM gems, I assume you need a combination of regen and leech to sustain BM? is that just something you gain with levels and passives or should I be looking out for specific kinds of gear?

All you need to use BM is enough life leech / life on hit and HP regen to sustain skills. Then you drop all mana crap and can pew-pew happily. So just try if you leech / regen enough and switch to BM.

Of course gear with +life on hit and regen helps, but it's mostly leech gems and regen passives

Guess we will need some modifications to Cast On Damage Taken config since GGG is nerfing the gem. I will update first post when the patch has been deployed.

Have u lvl your char using this build? I just have lvl my duelist till lvl 52 using a "good" forum build and now i can't stop dying... I thought i was doing well till get to the final of cruel act 3. I got 1500 dps, >45% damage reduction, almost capped resistences, 1.4k HP, and some evasion. But i just die anyway o.O''''

Were u able to lvl up without big problems (using low gear)?

Well yes, I finished the game and got to lv84 solo (there was no Dominus at that time). The only difference is that I was using BM node (before the big aura update). The tree was a bit different, but the character didn't change so much.

It is quite possible if you are just patient and careful. Don't do areas over your level, learn what each monster can do and how to avoid it, find party for a difficult boss. If your gear is bad, farm easy area till you find better, don't rush.

Always think why you died - what mistake you made. You can even record gameplay and watch later to learn something - I know some people who do that.

I don't know anything about duelist, but I managed to play just fine.

PS. You don't need to use "forum" builds...you can make your own that suits your playstyle best. I think it's the best solution.

My Ranger is over power. I don't use the red and blue gems. Stick on the green gems. I'm thinking about getting that one red gem that give some health back.

Here is what I'm using as a group.

Lesser Multiple Projectiles

Lightning Arrow or Split Arrow (Use less mana. Saving some mana.)

Mana Leech or Faster Projectiles (Using mana poitions. Harder. Maybe useless.)

Faster Attacks or Added Cold Damage (Extra damages.)
