For your mod build, why dont get "Mind over Matter"? If you use BM gem, you will have a big mana pool. And 30% dmg reduction to mana seems very nice in hc.

I thought about this but all my mana will be use for aruas.

That's very similar to my build Except I went up to the witch tree for EB instead of going to the shadow/ranger tree. I plan on just having tons of mana and life/mana regen and using Mind Over Matter for defense.

I am currently trying out faster projectiles since I couldn't pick up Ballistic Memory.

I'll certainly take mana shield, even if i have to sacrifice a aura for it... 30% damage reduction sound huge :P (and given my planned regen/leech i shouldn't have to many problems keeping mana up for the shield and for my skill)

Yeah i was thinking about EB, but in the end i decided that the points are better spend on the mana leech + Ballistic masterity (+the man regen on the way).

There are many interesting ideas here, keep them coming :)

I can't say much in terms of gear yet, i guess i'll use whatever will have the best mods on it... I'm still leveling this build (yes i am slow, i know :P).
Currently i'm finishing act3 normal.

Yeah the build is up to date :P the posted tree is what i'm aiming for, i'm currently on lvl 35, so i still have far to go :)

There was some discussion baout the use of faster projectiles with ST. I've tried it out and i must say that i won't use faster projectiles with ST...
Why?

Well - while the weapon moves through the air it spins and it can hit the same monster multiple times even when it passes through it. So if it travels slower it will hit enemies on its way more often (but the range of the skill is of course shorter).
Only with the ballistic mastery passive it is still good, because the skill got a bit of range (exactly to the edge of my screen) and it is still "slow" enough to hit human sized opponents twice while fliing through them; but if i have that passve and the fp support gem the weapon flies that fast that it'll hit most enemies only once, so instead of hitting them 4 times in one cast (twice when it first goes through and twice when it returns) i did hit them only twice, which effectively reduced my clearing speed.

The fp support has the advantage that the skill reach off-screen targets though, but this is still a problem with ST. Because you could hit an off-screen reflect group with it and the second problem is that you can't keep enemies in the most effective range - the point where the skill stops in the air and than starts coming back - enemies at that distance get hit more often (or at least it feels so) and that is the ideal range for ST to do max damage. With the passive the range is exactly on the edge of my screen and i can still aim to keep mobs there, while i couldn't do taht if taht distance is of my screen

An interesting build idea for someone else:
Use slower projectiles (yes the range will be shorter but the damage per cast should increase) and Point blank (the range is short anyway, why not adding more damage for it ;))

I have been using FP since I got it in A3 normal and I must say I totally agree with you here. The range is really nice, but at lvl 10 now and 46% faster projectile speed, they are definitely moving way too fast and not hitting as much as they used to. I think to make this work, you would need to have a very high attack speed to have more projectiles flying at once to compensate for the loss in hits.

I plan on removing it and moving on to something else, not completely sure what yet, but I am thinking faster attacks.
Wayyy to much nodes going all over the tree. The life is complete suicide.

You will need a mana leech/blood magic gem/item for this to work. but about 300% life. Also took the sword nodes with hp as these are really strong. Kept your build idea sort of in touch.

Get int nodes along the path if you need them. I didnt include endurance charges into ur build but I would highly recommend it.

I have a similar build I'm doing but I'm really thinking about just getting blood magic node it's not far from iron grip and that way you can focus on life leach and for get about mana completely. Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the idea, especially since you try to keep the basic motivation of the build the same, which is awesome.
But lets agree to disagree over the life :P I have a lvl 77 duelist who has about the same amount of life, and yes he did die a few times, but i would say less than 10 and he is a melee char and i played him before all those life buffes and trigger which came now with 1.0 (he does have more armor though)
My planned scion is not only ranged but will also (hopefully) reduce damage by 30% thanks to mana shield.
Though i will probably take your advise and switch to the sword nodes with life (thanks for pointing them out, i haven't checked all small nodes and i missed the life bonus on those)

The part about mana is meant for mind over matter, so IF it works out it should give quite a lot of additional defence.

As i said i realise that the char might not be HC viable (i'm quite sure that it is "default viable"), but i will try my best and get it as far as possible in Nemesis :) (for now i'm just before normal Dominus)

EDIT: entered Cruel. The boss fight was great - i didn't read any spoilers before, so i didn't know what was waiting for me and it was awesome :D
