Damn! I dreaded this to find it's way in to release... i was glad, so glad that there was no name restrictions, profanity filters or other kind of harassment by so called virtues.
This game is inundated with violence, nudity etc. and should be rated 18+ IF someone feels like this is not for people of every age to behold... (i am not even delving into this whole topic of how M-rated content is available for minors anyway).

In the end it all breaks down to the fact that GGG will go into the "official phase" with this game and (among others, i know) into the american market, which might be the major reason why this crap is happening. I understand GGG, that you are dependent on the cash flow from this market to continue with this awesome game, but i can't help it, i am really peeved by this.

You really have to have a strange view on the world and a weird way of positioning yourself towards others if feel insulted by the incidence that there is a player in a COMPUTER GAME that you play ONLINE and can quit any time you want has named his in-game character (not even you or himself) Frozen_Cu*t (ice witch have encountered). I mean we are dealing with grown up (persons who are matured in the sense of law) people here, not with kids being cyber-bullied on facebook! Which is indeed a totally different thing, i know.

Sorry for the wall of text, but agreeing to this kind of censorshit among grown ups is really just a huge begging for the moral overseers whip. It keeps people dump, nonsensitive & inresponsible for their own actions if all they have to argue against it is "HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS! PUNISHMENT! BURN THE WITCH" I breeds idiots that want to be told what to do.

Again, i understand that this is most likely a necessity for GGG to do but i had to open that steam vent ;-)


oh, and a little off topic:
I really like that there is no progress bar on the loading screen.
Hope it stays like that.

Theres a large difference between animated violence, nudity, and just acting like a child who thinks having overly derogatory names is funny.

I guess it's the difference between a person above the age of 18, and a mature adult.

Do you need protection from theses people, are you helpless?

No profanity filter or name restriction has ever saved my online gaming experience from people who ACTED childish, (ninjaloot-instaquit, pulling bosses in MMo's and the likes).

In no case there was ever a context between the utmost stupid or well chosen name of a player and its adult behavior in online games. People with names like like "Leg0l4s"; "Darkshadow"; "Evilsoul"; or "Gandalf93" are far, far worst team players most of the time...

You don't have to take it as an insult, it is the OTHER persons NICK name not something he is calling you.

It's like banning the word "starvation" from the chat just because you are against the fact that there are people starving in the world. You create a connection that is simple not in existence, hence no one need to be protected. I would understand that in a pokemon game, or other titles for children, (no dis to grown up pokemon players ^^ ).

And by the way: I can't see the particular point in my post where i made childish names equal to animated violence or nudity. You are mixing something here

Never said I needed someone to monitor anything. What I am saying is that just because there's animated violence and nudity does not mean that *overly* derogatory or w/e type of names/speech should be ok.

Shit rolls downhill. Not up. The types of things people put in names tend to get progressively worse. As each person tries to outdo the next.

The violence and nudity adds atmosphere. Someone with the name milky_vaginal_discharge does not.

Im all for clever play on words type names. I had a character named Crit_On_Clit. Its not overly gross, offensive, or anything.

Hey, thanks for making this clear!
And i do understand that you feel distracted from "non atmosphere names" :-)
But the fact that you rolled a "crit_on_clit" is somehow a concession that you don't take it THAT serious after you finished normal difficulty once. POE is a cool game and the story is cool. But it is not a story game. It's a damn item hunt & build tinker game. Otherwise the cruel and merciless would not repeat the story and there would be different story line for the different character classes. Btw, if someone wanna enjoy the atmosphere he will most likely do it in solo or buddy group anyway. The moment you encounter jerks (people you wanted to be shielded from because there have a bad name) is when you run maps or slay bosses or simply grind. So much for the atmosphere. POE RPG server anyone? I guess that's the sanctuary for all the bruised and maimed upright persons that want to gut their foes in a political correct way.

And: A restriction is not a monitoring it just suppresses something. Completely.
I am not going into detail what that means, this will be completely off topic ^^

And to be frank: i am afraid that there are a lot of "Grown ups" out there that feel somehow different about the harming capability of "crit_on_clit"... sadly
