Saint Vitus: Physical crit ranger guide[Always Updated]

I really like your build and the idea behind it - just could you explain more about how you start this build in the early game? and how to progress it? That would be epic !

Well in the 1-20 levels you get the first 18% evasion node then you go for greater impact, after that you get the 3 8% life nodes and go down twards the frenzy charge, to the fitness node for more life.

Through 20-40 you go for Thick Skin as fast as you can, you can even take the 2 dex near the first frenzy points to shorten the way then respec them later on. after that you go up to the 4 8% life nodes then to Iron reflexes

40-60 you get the Mana flows, Leather and Steel then 30% evasion Reflexes node on to the physical damage nodes and the other 2 Frenzy charges.

In the endgame over level 60 you already got your life and armor solved and you just go for the bow physical damage nodes then critical chance nodes.

That should be about it, hope this helps :)

It does, thank you !

Secondly, does % increase physical damage apply to only your default attacks? Or also to Rain of arrows, frenzy ?

It applies to all attack skills

Great build, though a few questions:

1. Could this also support Split Arrow and perhaps going for the piercing talent (along with the Pierce gem) to handle crowds? Of course, if it's too much support with gems would Split Arrow be better than RoA and instead investing some other passive skill points into things like the above mentioned Pierce talent, or going a bit further and getting the knockback talent along with its faster arrow speed buffs in the same circle?

2. Would Burning Arrow be a decent single target attack along with Frenzy, or should one just stick to Frenzy? I'm thinking just Frenzy since gem space would be a premium.

3. Do you need the Decoy Totem, or would it perhaps be better to run a totem that links with your Temporal Chains gem and have it doing the casting? or could you dump the totem entirely in favor for other attacks?

4. Would Critical Weakness be the better choice, or would Projectile Weakness work better if you want a second curse along with TC like you have?

5. What about the use of the Blood Magic gem to help out with gaining Frenzy Charges as well as getting a boost to Life Leech? I know you'd still want to use Frenzy to help with single target charge building, but would that be viable for group killing?

Ok here we go:

1.Of course it could, you would just need a bit of respeccing, but i find this to be the most optimal build for pure physical/critcal chance ranger, and also there is the little thing that i wanted to show people that both of these things can be very versatile (Rain of Arrows and Physical damage on a ranger). But otherwise, i say go for it if you prefer split arrow :)

2.I use burning arrow along with a blackgleam quiver when i run into physical damage reflect mobs

I just swap bows if i see a reflect mob, there is too much risk at the moment if you try to kill a phys reflect mob with high crit cahnce/crit multi, i did 1hit myself quite a few times before i used this tactic. so i do recomend using an ele skill as a swap!

3.I always use the totem because it basically makes things easier, it can tank very well and it groups up enemies for me. I do not recommend using a curse on a totem, it's just easier to curse enemies yourself. What you could do if you do not want to use a decoy totem, is just use summons, or you could make a spell totem linked to summon skeletons.

4.i recommend using projectile weakness if or when your crit chance is low, and if/when you have high critical chance, use critical weakness.

5. Im assuming you mean Blood Rage gem, well i just find that using frenzy is way easier, i use frenzy to power the rain of arrows fast and for single target killing. I dont think Blood Rage would be a good substitute to this. Even if you dont want to use rain of arrows, Frenzy is a much better and faster way to power your area attack without any consequences.

Cool, cool. Thanks much for your help. :) Nice to have a little guidance even though I've played my fair share of Diablo II and have someone who knows their stuff and can provide a few starting points for those getting into the game. Been playing a Ranger a bit and feel like I messed up a bit even with my second try, but at least I can hold onto the gear for now and maybe make another Ranger if this one doesn't turn out too well.

Since you have a decent amount of STR in your build I wonder if Range Attack Totem is variable to this build?

How does RoA do with Range Attack Totem?
