I want a *silent* auction house.

" DarthSkill wants 100Y for X, Mizou suggests: 1) Darthskill sells X for Z and then 2) Darthskill finds someone else to accept Z for 100Y ? C'mon. There has to be a low point where some people stop complaining because it's just not worth it, and I have yet to see it. - Squeakypaw, 2013 Last edited by obadonke#0693 on Oct 6, 2013, 6:36:19 PM

"That's not what he's suggesting, so let me break it down real slow for you. When you create an auction, you could choose to sell gear, or a map, or a stack of currency, or many stacks of currency. Bidders could then bid on it with gear, or a map, or a stack of currency, or many stacks of currency. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. " No, I said reasonable offer. If, as is most likely, a "reasonable offer" for a stack of 100 Fusing Orbs happens to be some number of other Orbs, then what exactly is different? However, if I offer 100 Fusing Orbs for sale, and someone offers Shavronnes in trade, then perhaps that would be a better deal...? The point is, limiting trades (and especially buyouts) to Orbs does not make the best use of the barter system, and Orbs just become gold under a different name. Maybe the seller could add one tag from a predetermined list to suggest what kind of bid they want? The tag list would be each currency item and each item group. Couldn't suggest a number with the tag, just the type of thing the seller is looking for (if anything specific). The tag could also be left blank.

" One must wonder. You make a game designed around buying and selling and then yourself and your followers trip all over yourselves trying to turn something as straightforward as buying an item with currency into some cutesey hand holding kum-by-ya bullshit. You made currency, you made it so that currency is worthless for crafting and valuable for buying, you made it so that there are exchange rates, you made an 'economy'. Buyouts are a part of that. Wake up and stop with all the 'interaction' bullshit. |

If you want a silent auction house, then why don't you stay quiet about it, huh?
No, really though. This isn't a bad idea, but I am opposed to any solution that removes bartering, community participation, or accountability from trading. These are all integral parts of trading in path of exile, and bartering in particular would be made nonexistent in any auction house system. "That's an interesting idea, but I'm a little concerned it would lead to a lot of buyouts in practice. For example, you list an item that is pretty clearly not worth 2 Exalt, but you tag it "Exalt" — the implication is b/o 1 Exalt. Tags like "bow," "wand," "armour chest," however — I think those would be good additions. Maybe even a generic "currency" tag — not one for each currency, just "currency." " Don't have to be part of the economy they don't add much usefulness to POE anyways. Without buy outs prices would eventually drop, why? speculation would become more difficult for one, as would flipping with silent auctioning. Of course this would have to be somewhat mandatory with the options being trade chat or this system, the forums would have to be nixed. |

" No you don't get it. What you are suggesting, since its silent and I can't suggest offers, that I just take the best offer I can get, then proceed to use that sale to participate in another silent auction just to get what I really wanted in the first place. That is outrageous. "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt."
