I want a *silent* auction house.

I don't like a system where you have to make a deposit that is held in escrow till the seller decides he wants to pick one. There would be nothing to prevent somebody from just having a endless auction and accumulating a lot of bids just to be an asshat.

Bidders could retract their bids at any time, so it wouldn't be that bad.

If it still ends up being a problem, they could have auctions expire without sale after a fixed period of time. This would automatically release all bids.

Answering "where the fun is" is not meaningless, and should be explored.

Problem with D3 is that devs didn't gave much alternatives. I hope that PoE devs will not follow this road because we don't need extreme solution only, the success is to made solution appealing to wide variety of people (like in keystones discussion, we don't need only extreme keystones).

I'm in general against trading, but have to trade from time to time, to buy some specific items. I usually buy it from dropped currency. I don't want to be ripped or not too much and don't want to waste time. That's why I buy virtually only by b/o.

So for me, bidding is not a fun. Bidding is waste of time, I could play in. I don't like to play "trading mini-game" (as you call it). Am I bad player because of that?

That's pretty much what Chris said he planned to do in the Gamespot interview.

Except it's not an auction house, but a public stash tab.
Their idea would be to store items for sale in the public stash tab and simply receive offers for these items. You could check all that ingame or through the website and even do the trading through the website.
With such a system, there wouldn't be a B/O, and you wouldn't be able to tell what other people offer (unless the seller tells you).
It would also put negociating back on the table.

We had a thousand and 1 threads on that next to the million ah threads. People are too impatient, Chris and the others are looking at threads and thinking about this stuff.
This seems like a reasonable middle ground. I support it.

So, in essence: this activity sucks, I'm going to bypass as much of it as possible. Do I have that pretty much down?

If so, there are two ways to solve the problem:
1. turn the bidding into a fun, so that you no longer consider it a waste of time
2. give you alternatives that further reduce your bidding time

I think I've covered #1 already; making it harder for everyone to pin down the right market values for items leads to a more dynamic trading environment with more opportunity, more risk, and less predictability.

In terms of #2, I think players who don't enjoy trading should have better non-trade outlets. Stuff like increasing orb drops so you could craft more if you wanted, and reducing rare gear drops so you have less stuff you feel you have to trade away; obviously these should be balanced against each other to prevent that game from being neither much easier nor much harder. Improvements to the crafting/gambling and vendor recipe systems are ideal for players who want to do something with their orbs other than trade.

What I don't think we should be doing is trying to design a game system around players who are likely to have little to no interest in it ever. Designing PvP around the attitudes of PvE players, to try to make it "quick and painless," is silly; instead, it's better to do things which make the PvP inherently fun. For the same reasons, we shouldn't be looking to those who inherently hate trading for ideas on how to improve it... instead, we should be looking to them for ideas on possible alternatives.

I strongly dislike that suggestion because it includes buyouts and does not facilitate cross-timezone trading (buyer should be allowed to be AFK or logged off).

It doesnt include buyout... it include buyout price... not a function
showing people logging behavior is pretty much the best you can reach without getting in an auction house system... otherwise it cuts the Player interaction that GGG wants to keep

No instant buyouts.
No sniping; unlimited duration, until seller accepts a bid.
No ability to see how big the current bids are.
No type-your-own description where the seller types "b/o 2 Exalt."
Not even the ability to know whose item you're bidding on to message them to determine the buyout.

Just search up the stats you want, and bid what the item is actually worth to you. The game holds your bid until the auction is either completed, retracted by the seller, or retracted by you. When the seller selects your bid as the winner, the seller gets your entire bid, and you get the item in a remove-only stash tab next time you log on.

Such a system would actually be more anti-buyout than the trade forums are currently. Since we hate buyouts and this replaces their functionality, take down the trade forums when this is implemented. Sayonara, poe.xyz.is.

It's fucked up that D3 has made it so when people hear "auction" they think "buyout." The two things are actually mutually exclusive; real auctions don't have buyouts, they have bids.

I am sick and fucking tired of buyouts on the shop indexers and trade forums. Fuck all buyouts. Make new systems to prevent that shit forever.

I've said it before, that (imho) any "auction house" implementation should allow for the trading of any items, not just the purchasing of goods with currency orbs. Your idea would seem to agree with this, by removing buyouts.

It should be more like a true barter-style exchange of goods (your multistrike gem for this shiny new axe, for example) rather than falling back on orbs as a substitute for gold.
