Hi,
i would love to share with you my trapper, and the amazing fun i have playing it in endgame. This build is new, and is succeptable to changes as i figure them out along the way.

propper sequence Curse Ele weakness>Shock Nova prolif "trip shock">ice nova "extended slow/Freeze due to shock" >fire "Boom or Burn" > > repeat > start sequence on new pack

THE BUILD PHILOSOPHY AND CLASS CHOICE


Traps scale with spelldamage, "excluding beartrap" there are three ways to obtain spelldamage in this game to make traps scale.

The first being gear, the second being passive nodes and the third iron will support gem.

The idea of this build is to rely on the latter two the least, so you can stack survivability/mana regen.

i found shadow/templar to be the most reasonable base classes to pull this build off.

you generaly want to avoid witch starter, it has the extra es nodes but you will have to track both to templar/shadow and the scion basenodes.

This build is as VIABLE as a sporker, but plays LESS boring

THE DAMAGE AND HOW IT STACKS



Step one, the debuff
Cursing Ele weakness!
While running EE, the maximum negative res one could give theoreticly with EE is -150, this means you basicly do 400% (based on default 50% resist 50-0=100%more dmg (200% total), then folowed by another 50% (300%) and another 50% totalling the 150%- for 400% multiplier) more damage to the debuffed mobs due to lowered resist
Both curses and penetration gems can reduce the resistance of a target below 0%.

Step two, The multiplier
The main damage source of this build comes from aplying "shock stacks" to large packs, directly scaling following traps by adding 120% damage(multiplying dmg by 220% , nerfed to 190% dmg in 1.0), cursing it prior to this will likely prolong your shock duration.

the objective is to shock here, not really to do the utmust damage yet.
so istead of lightning trap we use shock nova+Trap (Quality chance to shock), because of the behavior of the trap gem, you will end up with 3 unqiue casts that can each crit. further increasing the odds of shocking on top of shock nova+added lightning

Then we want to proliferate these shockstacks onto the entire pack of mobs, basicly debuffing ALL of the mobs


Step Three, Control and damage
Based on having both effects applied earlier, we would want some control and dps.
i found the best solution is to use ice nova+ Trap, freeze isnt so required but due to the previously applied effects once can count on crits freezing for considerable duration, and normal hits for chilling extended periods.

You can opt for coldsnap, but i find that without prolif it is rather lackluster and i simply prefer having cold pen.



Step four!, the boom
so now your mobs are either frozen/chilled giving you more control on placing your next set of traps to do utter devestation.

Fire trap + Burning damage is your friend, what you dont kill with this, will most likely die from burning damage.

My assumption here is that mobs have 50% RESIST, not assumed with 75% map ress affix
your mob is both cursed, and shocked "where the shock attack previously gave you the -50 fire you need and that ALL three traps explode before a recast



FireTrapFireDMG*4*2.2*3 = noncritdmgAVG
noncritdmgAVG*Mult/Critchance = CritdmgAVG
noncritdmgAVG+critdmgAVG = AVG tooltip dmg



7000 AVG( mindmg+maxdmg/2 ) Dmg raw fire dmg on fire trap *4 (400% due to ele weakness "28.000")
*2.2 (Shockstacks "61600" in 1.0 this number will change to *1.9) per trap,
remember we are using multitraps so the single output non crit for the entire throw is 3*61600 = 184.800 per throw of firetraps,
that is based on all 3 traps firing with trigger range and is EXCLUDING the burning dmg effect


now to calculate Avg Crit+Multiplier dmg lets say we have 20% chance to crit "not hard to obtain" and 300% "crit mult"


firstly we calculate the multiplier dmg, wich is for this napkin version 184.800*3 + 184.800
or dmg*4 in short wich is "739200" on avg, 1/5 will be crit so 739200/5 = "147840"<- this is the important bit we add to the non crit
dps, remember we had 184.800 fire dmg, add the crit avg wich is 147840 the actual "explosion" of firetrap does an avg of 332.640 dmg,


agian excluding the Burn from firetrap and the crit wich yould significantly scale damage done even further. "the burn will be based of the HIGHEST crit done by 1/3 of your traps, "so burn dmg is based off 739200/3 because its only the single burn effect "they do not stack" having 3 traps crit, simply means the highest source of burn dmg get's applied and the other two sources get overwritten. so the burn dmg on the full 4 seconds is 4Sec*0.333~ of 739200/3= 328533.333~ or 82133.33325 DPS per sec burn dmg



also, i know im calculating crit for all 3 traps, and i know they all have a unique chance to crit however, the AVG. does not change. each trap still has 20% chance to crit, so grouping them together means , i'm excluding "4" other casts of 12 traps of crits. and granting 3 traps to crit "Some RNG involved."

As a downside, having a mob "miss" two of your traps could potentially Reduce your dps by 200%

i just wanted to show the "potency" of reducing Res, before i actually showed you the tooltips of the spec in screendump.

The idea is to take as much skillpoints as you can. so preferable Kill ALL bandits.
the one single alternative is to take the MANA reward from normal, because it simply makes it easier to deal with mana management and can be worth the point investment

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I'm Starting here, because i wish to slowly explain my philosephy behind the trapper.

For me, when i started this build.. cost would not be an issue. i had earned extensive exalts trading with my 92 duelist.

it's not going to be cheap to pull off due to several reasons, cheaper versions ARE however possible at certain downsides. "nonshav/or lower es from springleaf"

1. low life. "Requires Large volumes of ES to deal with RF regen" second it requires a shavronnes wrappings to do maps

2. due to mana Regen being manditory for this build
you cannot simply rely on manapots to deal with shavronne's ring further emphasising the need for high es to cope with the regeneration, unlike a sporker manacost are significant.
Gifts from above Fixes this, and is a significant item within the build now


Trap improvements where announced, and i started leveling my trapper before the trap patch.
i got to lvl 26.. and i simply got bored with the trapper. resumed lvling my duelist.

when the last patch hit, and i saw the belt/boots. i was reinspired to pick it up as i found a lightning trap on my duelist.


my mind started racking, on how i could implement the lightning trap into my trapper and make him essentially use nothing but traps.


i came up with the basic plan.

Lightning trap to shock, Elemental Equilibrium > fire trap to burn Elemental Equilibrium
rince repeat, the initial planw as to do this all with a 6L Searing touch, to benefit from the fire dmg/spelldmg/burn dmg

This slowly evolved into coldsnap trap + lightning trap + fire trap and to cycle them 1,q 2,w 3,e keybinds

as i started noticing the potential of my build, i decide to buy sunblast and later on a 5L Shav, wich i intend to 6L at some point

it wasnt untill i enabled RF and ran it stable when i finally understood what the total package was, i was roughly farming docks to lvl when i finally managed to get RF stable with a springleaf and even slightly positive generating Es for me

the regular Freeze>shock>Fire turned into..

Shock>Freeze>ohwait.. shits dead already

i finalized the build, by taking Shock nova over lightning trap to procure shockstacks no problem without having to rely on static blows. saving me some nodes for other stuff "might take them in the near future"


So What i ended up with,
a highly mobile, Switch on/off Dps + Tank on OFF mode + artic armor

i facetanked mageara on a 76 crema, easy roll with low Artic armor L17 back then m myself was LVL 75.

waiting to 20 it and my empower to ding L3. "i know i could altcast them for lvl 26" i havent procured the correct wand/weapon yet however "i now have one!"

REASONS FOR LOW LIFE


1. RF
2. Pain attunement.
3. Easier tie in to trap nodes.
4. easier to tie in resource cost with mana regen whilst running multiple aura's

THE BENEFITS


1. Discharge like burst damage, at no risk of reflects!
2. party play/solo play!
3. option to run HIGH mf
4. artic armor, positive while moving with correct gear low cost while standing still throwing traps.. no downsides for running it
5. -150% mob resists with cursing! this makes things go boom
6. Shock nova prolif, to instant shockstack.

THE DOWNSIDES


1. No regen = NO nothing
2. Half regen = Still nothing, mana regen helps a bit here.
3. the usual no bloodmagic
4. can be hard to maintain Rf, dousing pot to control ES is manditory, some skill involved to micro manage "gifts from above does ALOT to fix these issues no longer a significant problem
5. single target is rough, harder to maintain or apply shockstacks or trigger 3 traps

OUTLOOK ON 1.0


1. Announced 30 new trap/totem nodes.
2. No reliance on vaal pact, seems to be a build that is 1.0 proof
3. On hit Ele cursing should work fine in 1.0, removing the need to manually curse

its super active play cycling 3 traps and managing RF/ES pool whilst dodging attacks. and the ebst fun i've had in POE since i started,

The costs are up there, but lower builds are possible using springleaf

Hi i grabbed the leak skilltree and planned a 120 nodes build with photoshop.

this is the results.

Gains,

+1% life regen<- good
+trap nodes, including trap immunity <- good.

Loses,
- some strength, requiring me to use atrizi over eye. "not a big problem."
- Crit, in favor of the new trap nodes

heres the actual edit, on top of the tree with remarks on the new nodes
reminder, this isnt the finalised tree, some changes might occur.

I am interested in seeing the shock nova with multiple traps because I am confused as to what it does? Wouldn't you wanted Incresed aoe? I may be wrong but I need tot see it because if it gets shock stacks I may work this into my build I am running. I will wait for the vids as to see what the skills do. I won't comment on the build or item choice because I don't fully like them, not only that but I play ONS so much different. Gl with the ideas.

i need time to do a high qual full 76-77 map run with people. my PC isnt neceserrily the best for recording it either "not during 6 party play" and currently do not posses any maps significant enough to solo and display

As for increased aoe, ive considered adding inc AOE to my firetrap/Lightning trap, ice nova comes with inc Aoe on Qual.



Here's the Rough idea, in both cases, im not even able to complete the full 3 trap sequence without RF, because stuff just dies. ill try to find mobs high enough to survive the triple sequence, or ask some buds to come idle on my docks to inflate hp.. for now this will have to do

Can you post your stats as dps on traps, ES regen, mana regen

So it's a softcore build right? can it be risky to play in an hardcore League?

Why the sunblast? is it really necessary for this build? i believe sunblas is better with lightning trap, a shock nova trap can be used without it, right?
Your right sunblast isnt as manditory as i lead to believe.
but its a nice item to have with mana regen on it and trap dmg/light radius

the tooltip's are rather deceptive though this is based off my lvl 77 shadow

fire pen/light pen Etc add alot of dmg done when lowering resists.

current tooltip

fire trap 4867.8 At lvl 17 gems with no qual
shock nova trap 3595 at 17-15 lvl range with only qual on shock for nova atm
ice nova trap 1562 at lvl 15-17 range skillgems no qual


EE adds -50 res + the additional penetration gems im linking going to link to it
and curses add some also.

"ive been considering removing multi from ice nova and adding inc aoe" just so i can dual multi+1 ice nova in one wave

mana regen currently 118, going to expand this by exalting mana regen on my wand and taking some more mana nodes


This build is pretty safe, if you CHOOSE not to enable RF.
as seen by the vid's the damage output is significant enough with my lvl gems to onehsot mobs on docks on the second trap wave even on my weakest trap ice nova.

blew 65 ex in eternal/ex on wand, got 21% crit mult .

had to roll over 16% castspeed / 8% castspeed once :\

harsh decision.. still not happy with it.. have an imprint in the end ideally i want mana regen
Have you tried using cold snap instead of ice nova?
HC / onslaugh viable?
