Chris' response to loot filter (a little late)

The problem I have with using Z is it's all or nothing. Which is fine if your solo or in a PA group. But if your not, someone else will be getting your loot for sure, cause you didn't see it.

I also don't recall playing any diablo game that had me pick up white junk by accident by simply trying to move thru the area. It did happen, but not even close to how it is in PoE. personally when I'm soloing, I like to run thru a dungeon once. If I get full on rares, I'll stop, go to town, bank the inv., then continue on. Using Z would mean doing the whole map, then going back thru after yer done, and doing what I already do. In essence, wasting my time running thru the whole area twice.

There certainly needs to be a filter imo.
I would love to see custom item filters!
It seems really easy for us to filter out the 99% of the items we don't want to see. We understand the rules we want. But try to design a mechanical filter that does the same job and you'll see that it's much more complex than you'll give it credit.

A good filter will go a long way to making this game more enjoyable.

I'd recommend they look at a "fade out" solution. All items appear on drop for a second or so at least. Then, in reverse order of what the game thinks of as 'importance', the items tags fade from view. Pressing "x" or some other button restarts the fade.
Diablo 2 had the option to only show loot while you were holding Alt. Path of Exile has the same, but it's generally not enabled by default. They also put in an option to only allow you to pick up gear while holding a configurable button. So when there's a crowd of items on the screen, I can't pick any of it up unless I'm holding "6." There have been a few times that I've had to pop the "Z" key in maps, but nothing even close to game-breaking, like filter supporters want to believe.

With a loot filter in place, why not just not have unwanted gear drop in the first place? If that happens, why not take it a step further and only have gear drop if it's a direct upgrade to your character? And then only if it's optimized with the right sockets and stats. Hell, at that point, identifying items could be phased out, and the gear could equip itself, transferring over gems to the new piece.

Anybody that wants things like a loot filter or auction house shouldn't be playing a random-loot based ARPG, and will probably resubscribe to The Old Republic in a few months anyway.
Look, man. Video games are hard, okay?
I like the torchlight system were you can turn off what gear type you don't want see or what type based on rarity.

It's an addition that doesn't affect the gameplay what so ever. It's prob in the backwater but it won't hurt.

I still think the best way would be a custom file to personally prevent undesired stuff to drop.

Example: In merciless, I dont want to see white chests with less than 5s other than 5l. 6s can drop with no link. I want to only see white armours 4l if max sockets allowed is 4. Etc.

It could be extremely long to set up but it would definitely be worth the time invested.

People that think they want this dont know that they would not see any drops for a while then. Thats how it always goes when you filter something out.

Nice necro. But I'll further the discussion.

I believe the default button to make loot disappear is "Z." You can't filter loot in a game like this. If you did, why have it drop in the first place? The appeal of ARPG's like this is to wade through oceans of garbage to find a few gems. It wasn't so bad in D2, except for the Cow Level (D2's only true end-game Map). If you can't see the screen, use that "Z" key until after combat, or just toggle it off and back on to reset the appearance of gear text on your screen.

You know you don't have a monopoly on the "correct" way to play the game, right? And the whole point of an option like an item filter is to give players like you the ability to play the way you want, and other players the ability to play the way they want.

I know, I know, it seems obvious that the way YOU play is right and everyone else is stupid, but - sigh - this is the world we live in. People don't always realize that.
Or at least make some of the valuable items that drop A DIFFERENT FREAKING COLOUR

like Maps, or Orbs Chaos or above.

it's not like its hard, its just an if() statement.

The ironic thing is with PA loot you see OTHER peoples valuable drops better than you see your own.

Actually, I do. I play the game as it is programmed, not as I wish it was programmed. If a couple thousand people want the inventory screen to play more like Tetris, would they do it? Should they? Adapt or die.
