All torrents ARE legal, its just a container.
Thats like saying if someone stores drugs in an airport locker than all lockers are illegal which is not the case.

Its a matter of the person who chose to place illegal material in the torrent rather than the torrent itself.

As long as GGG is okay with folks obtaining their client through other methods than the official download site, then the mod was correct. Someone may attempt to illegally obtain said legal material and find they cannot use it, thus leading them to visit the site and of course the possibility exists that even if say...10 out of 500 downloads give GGG 10 bucks to play, thats a 100 bucks the company wouldnt have seen otherwise.

There was a great incident on the pirate bay recently when a man named Mikolaj Kaminski(aka Sos), who was responsible for a solo indie project called McPixel. There was a torrent on the pirate bay which he found, but instead of going bananas looking for those responsible he commented on it giving away keys for the game under the premise that, if they are downloading it then they are playing it.

Shortly after the pirate bay contacted him and offered to put the torrents in a pay-what-you-will section. So people can pay what they like for the game.

It's great to see people taking different approaches to pirating. And I think that if it ever comes to it PoE could easily benefit from having a torrent up on the site. Not from the funding side of things but purely from a publicity aspect.

Torrenting Path of Exile is not a bad idea, but it is best if GGG upload it themselves to avoid bad torrents.

There used to be a torrent floating around. Anyone with uploader status can make one on a large site, as torrents pretty much rely on users rating them.

Unfortunately they do not check credentials before patching, which imo is a mistake. This means that a large population updating would potentially cost them and maybe contribute to lag.

Funny. I'm a huge pirate but have no idea how "pirate" and "client" go together, lol. I'm not understanding how a person can download the game from PirateBay and play it if they haven't bought a key for the game, without the game having been cracked and thus taking funds away from GGG.

Maybe being a pirate is the issue. I've never looked at other options on PirateBay in regards to downloading stuff. I didn't even know they had a "pay what you want" section :s


I might be a pirate and a quasi-gamer, but if anyone takes the time to explain this to me please dumb it down. Lots.

The client is merely the tool used to obtain the content IF youve got beta access.

So, the client is useless without it so basically...
