Another thing dont overstate the need to prevent people having most items, gameplay does not end at that point as you can still experiment and PvP.As long as most people dont have everything in like the first few years (or months). The Market does not need to maintain itself at a constant till the end of time, there maybe a POE 2 eventually after all.Basically a Market just need to be able to survive a games lifetime.

I believe GGG stated they wanted PoE to last at least ten years.

But they also said they will release expansions in the progress.

Oh right, of course. If there are expansions that release higher levels or better equipment, the previous expansion's so-called best gear will be replaced.
Gear might be replaced but it will still exist in large quantities for newer players to easily obtain.

Unless something sinks that gear of course.

But if the expansions introduce harder content/more levels/better gear to deal with that content, then the previous end-game gear no longer qualifies as end-game. Not to say that they'll be thrown out, but they'll be less useful and will become cheaper no? I'm not an expert in this domain, though, so I could certainly be wrong.
You're right, the old gear will be less useful, but because it will still be circulating in the economy it will still be highly available to newer players.

Thus, an item sink is still necessary. I suppose there is no problem with newer players gearing up quickly, but that’s what would happen.

However, it really depends on how often these content updates are. I suspect it will not take long to saturate the market with gear.

Ya, but all new players won't instantly go trading for the simple fact some may not want to they just want to play, others won't have the resources to make it worth while. So i think that early early players won't be effected by this.

As for the inflation that is really part of any game's economy unless you implemented extreme item sinks. Because when the game starts in open beta assuming they do a wipe the economy will start at absolute zero then players will play and gather equipment and discard old for better and newer equipment. Item sinks unless go to an extreme will not completely counteract the economy having more and more high tier items.

The way i see it is that early adopters will get the benefit of getting to higher levels early then later newcomers. however the newcomers get the advantage of getting rarer and better items a little easier than the early adopters.

I agree that a new player will be required to gather wealth before they can start trading. However, trading is a major part of the game. If items are already inflated with high end items then new players will not need to obtain very much wealth to acquire them.

Item sinks do not have to be extreme. They can easily be made fun and optional for the player. A few fun and optional item sinks would probably be more than enough to stabilize prices.

The beta might be a perfect place to test them out. Items will not be wiped from the main game, unlike the beta.

If the goal or intent of the system is to allow newer players the ability to easily obtain rare and better items, then that’s fine. I’m simply trying to suggest that if it is not the intent for new players to obtain a better gear easily, then item sinks will be needed. Also that these items sinks could be fun.

Not to be a forum nazi but I think this thread can be left alone from now on. People post comments, Silver disagrees. People make suggestions. Silver disagrees. No dev's have said anything about it.
