Minions getting Item Rarity
|
Hi, dont mean to beat a dead horse, searched for an answer but got more confused... if anybody could please explain.
My main hero has 200% iir from gear, minions have IR gem with 50% iir on it. Whenever i personally kill a rare with a wand - see lots of yellow with blue items. When minions kill rare boss - only blue falls with sometimes one yellow. Difference is very noticeable. GGG say that 200% iir is what i get for killing rares with my little wand, but if minions kill anything, they get my 200% iir plus their own little gem-bound 50% iir, total of whooping 250% iir. In reality it looks like minions get only their own 50% from the gem, and the IIR on equipped gear has no effect on any of the summoned creatures. May be this is just random bad luck, but a confirmation or a link to minion rarity explanation post would be great. PS. Necromantic Aegis passive that takes all perks from the shield and applies those perks to minions - if equipped shield contributes 20 iir - how will minion iir change? Thank you, Last edited by BigBadWolf1776#2295 on Sep 3, 2012, 10:58:12 PM

"It's the other way around, actually. Kills by your minions count as kills by you, so have your IIQ/IIR from gear applied (this is also why you get flask charges). But if the minions have the IIQ/IIR supports on them, then their hits apply extra IIQ/IIR to the monster at the point their hit, for that hit, hence a monster killed by your minion has the 50% IIR from the support (because it was killed by a hit from the minion, which applies this), and 200% IIR from your gear (because it counts as your kill). "This is not correct, and I cannot reproduce such a disparity. The only conclusion I can reach is you've been unlucky. "This is the situation brought up in this thread - as I explained , the reason the supports on minions add to your IIQ/IIR from gear is because the supports make any damage fromt he supported skill (in this case the minions) apply extra IIQ/IIR on hit. Then because the kill is assigned to you, your IIQ/IIR is used, and that's what the extra adds to. Because the kill is assigned to you rather than your minons, the minion's IIQ/IIR from gear is not used. The minion system was not built to handle minions getting gear IIQ/IIR, and this is usually impossible - Necromantic Aegis being the only way to do it. We don't have a solution to this yet. | |

Simplest solution from a design standpoint is to remove improved item quantity (iiq) and improved item rarity (iir) as modifications (mods) on shields to prevent any further such issues.
1. The biggest reason I believe this could become a big design issue that you waste a lot of time and money trying to make sure the minions don't get it as you believed it to be and in the long run if you follow that path you may create more bugs in the process. 2. People being people as we are "will" find a way to exploit said oversight and not the good kind of exploit designers are looking for but one that can ruin an in-game economy. 3. Add some other mods to replace the one in order to appease the community if you find it necessary. Just another players opinion. A side note - I am currently studying game design for my bachelors and after a lengthy discussion with one of my teachers he found my proposal wasn't that far off of what he might himself do. |

Thank you for a very thorough answer, Mark.
"Luck can be improved, especially in a fun game. Will definitely use more runs to see a better trend in loot drops. This is one case where i am glad to have been wrong. " So basically any iir on the shield with Necromanic Aegis is not being applied to the minions, but it is being deducted from the primary iir? That makes Necro-Aegis and iir on shield not being used together for now. Thank you for clarifying that, decided to stay away from Necro Aegis for the time being. |

" i have a question regarding this,so sorry for the bump to old thread , but, you said here several times that minion kills count as your kill, is that only for iiq/iir porpeses? cause life on kill from minion not apply to the caster as far as i know... inconsistency? my builds:
