Pure Summoner Build

What does "CI" stand for?
chaos inoculation
from Italy
Temporarily updated for open beta.

I have not been able to put a ton of time into playing the new tree or building up my summoner but I went ahead and updated the skill tree link with the goal I have set for my this build. Until I can play it though do not take this as the final best option, I may change some points around.

If you are building for the same type, and using Eldritch Battery, picking up the life and mana nodes are probably optimal as well as faster cast.

Again, I have not tested or played this new build, so please do not thrash me if something does not seem to work. Yet :P

Enjoy.

That's pretty much the point of a summoner, your minions are supposed to die and go kaboom killing everything near them. Get Minion Instability and Minion Health passive nodes.

I think my build was something like this around Lvl 30

prioritized getting all Minion Life nodes before any Minion Damage nodes and got Minion Instability around the time I killed Oak

pretty sure I had Enfeeble to help with minion survivability and might have also had Discipline around Lvl 30 too

boss killing is really just summoning Skeletons repeatedly and have them do damage via melee and/or Minion Instabiilty
Quick question does Pyromanic and Immolation nodes apply to the Minion Instability?
Finally got some time to play PoE and feeling somewhat disappointed.

Played for roughly 2 hours and the game has crashed 4 times including a low memory error(?). All through closed beta I never crashed and now it's 4 times? Disappointed.

Anyway, My Witch is level 15 currently and so much has changed since I played last year. But, regardless of the changes the build direction is still the same as it was.

I took the direct patch to Minion Instability and now working to Lord of the Dead by way of the mana regen nodes.

My current plan is to snag the +minion nodes first or at least most of the easier ones (left) before heading toward Hex Master and Eldritch Battery. Then work south and probably pick up Leadership before going toward the last +minion node. But we'll see how it plays out as I level.

Anyway, just wanted to give a heads up on my progress, I do not have a ton of time and I am also participating in other betas and one alpha currently so I have to spread my time around to provide feedback.

As in my original post, keep in mind my goal here is to be a pure summoner and not a damage dealer with summon support, so I do not plan to pick up or use any spell damage nodes at all. I want to test the viability of letting my minions do all of my work.

Here is my current planned path:

I don't have any gear to speak of, but the skills I am currently using are Fireball and Firestorm with Summon Zombies and Skeletons thus far.

Thanks for reading, I'll update when I can.

Hello, as having a summoner witch(lvl48 default) i would like to share my current experiences with those who read up theese posts, and thinking about making a summoner.

I have completed the summoner nodes on the skill tree, and got leadership, and EB.
I currently can manage 4 auras at once, all maximum to my lvl: wrath, clarity, discipline, anger (~1000max mana, ~800reserved).
I use 4 link gloves for skellies with minion damage, life and totem.
4 link chest for zombies life, damage, and added lightning damage.
Spectres also with life and health, and was lucky to get a sidhebreath amulet near the beginning.
I use my freezing pulse as main attack. And frost wall to protect myself from projectiles, or enemy creatures getting in my face.
I have increased AOE support linked with clarity and freezing pulse.

My overall experience so far:

I started hardcore with this witch, and it was going quite nicely, till i got killed by being frozen, in normal act2 pyramid ( i was too brave and forego my minions).

Since than going duo with my brother, who is doing a spork witch build, and i have to tell I'm going much slower without his damage, but its quite fun to do together.

Since cruel Vaal ,started to have difficulties even together, sometimes i die easily, since i put point on EB, and i think im undergeared regarding +life(Got 500 now). So if you go for it, you really have to have a lots of hp.

Zombies have 3k, and skellies got 1.5k hp at my current lvl (48)(lvl10 minion life support gems) so they are quite nice, but die a bit hard, except some bosses, where they die maybe a bit too fast.

Its a nice tactic to just put down your skelly totem near harder bosses, and hide in corner while totem is up.
Although Piety was really a pain on cruel with her long range arc, and lightning rain.

It sometimes can be fun, that you just put down your skelly totem near the enemy, let your minions fight and just take loots, or slack in the background.

Minions mean a good protection for my teammate, so he is attacked sparsely

Currently i'm better at holding off enemies while my brother kills them, also my minions pack some damage. My worst case scenarios are random targetting range ability mobs(ex.:Oak), aoe, and suicide murderers.

Also i have quite an old computer, so i experience lags with so much effects on. It means problem dodging mob skillshots, or looting in ffa teams. And get even slower if i team up with more people, or have a greater pack of mobs with multiple varying effects.

Experiencing some problems with minion AI. If I'm not attacking, minions also tend to slack more, and long ranged spectres like to shoot through unobstructable barriers. Minions get stuck at some corners.

Some spectres are awesome to use.

Sometimes its hard to decide if all mobs are dead already and you are shooting only your minions. Or if a skeleton next to you just gonna slam you. :)

I feel i gonna have to change freezing pulse into something else with a longer range

My current passive tree, took skillpoints from normal and cruel bandit quests:

On my equipment i havent spent much, mostly i got it from loot, a little bit of crafting, most of the gems from rewards, maybe traded for 1-2 gems, there is nothing special about it now.

My summary of summoner/aura witch currently:
Spoiler
It can be a great support for bigger party, if everyone's computer can handle the masses and effects.

If you really want to give the aura buffs to your party, than those auras must be high level ,so you need to have a lot of mana , and with high radius bonus in my opinion.
-Becouse people use auras which mainly boosts their playstyle on a level when they still have enough mana.
-Its different to keep with party members in range than to keep with minions in range.

In solo i think it would be going a bit slow after a while, or requires good gear.
So i was thinking that maybe going for less or lower lvl auras, and rather start evolving for a reasonable main attack spell/skill, having the minions as meattanks ,leaving eldritch battery out till having a decent gear might be more viable for leveling summoner.
Also consider that summoning well gemmed minions takes quite a lot of mana, so using skeletons with totem is quite a good option.

In hardcore those extra points definitely can go for survivability.

So thats all, before i was planning this summoner, i looked up the main ideas.
I think there is still a lot that can be improved on the playstyle/gear/build of this summoner, and there are many ways either for more damage, survival or supporting to choose after minions are maxed.
Probably with leaving preconceptions, in this game a much stronger build can be achieved.

Would like to see a summoner build with meelee skill, or bow skill in work

Oh, and also there are some questions arising regarding minions, for which i havent found fully satisfying answers, though there are more open threads :

What is minions base damage/dps/gemlvl,
If added elemental damage from aura or support gem scales with minion damage support gem and minion damage,
Which support gems work for minions, in what case, in what way(there was a post regarding this some pages before).

Best wishes.
