High latency is a problem that causes PoE desync issues but right now your main concern and focus should be on eliminating the packet loss.

yup in the meantime I will connect via Europe on the client

Hmm... Do you actually experience less packet loss by using the EU PoE game servers? If that is true then there is a problem further upstream than from your ISP at a major Internet backbone NAP where one companies fiber passes traffic to another fiber backbone. Those types of problems are harder to get resolved because the company responsible for ensuring that all the huge routers of Internet traffic are working correctly are unseen by the public and we usually have no idea of who they are or how to contact them.

Maybe you can run a traceroute just to get an idea of how your connection gets linked to the PoE servers. Here's my traceroute results:

C:\Users\Mark>tracert www.pathofexile.com

Trace complete.

From my home in Cape Coral, Florida I go from my local Linux computer router I call Shire (I name my computers with Lord Of The Ring names), through my own wireless network with the 68.68... addresses, out my fiber companies link in down town Fort Myers (route 6 and 7) which is FPLFN.NET (FPL FiberNet, our power company has an Internet fiber backbone service), who then passes my packets off to the next fiber carrier at the Miami NAP (route 8), it's then going to Houston (hou02 in trace 10), then on to Dallas, TX for 3 more hops until is arrives at the company hosting the PoE game servers (appears to be a company called Softlayer.com, route 14).

All of these routes or HOPS as they are referred to each have large/huge routers passing traffic from one Internet fiber data transport to another and is normal for any Internet connection.

So today my link to play PoE goes through Houston but later today I could as easily be routed through Atlanta, or any other NAP. The Internet is self load balancing (when all is working normally) so how my PoE game session data packets go to Dallas and back is up to the Internet at large and any 1 piece of equipment along the way could cause the packet to be misrouted or dropped if it is malfunctioning.

That is why any game company and not just GGG has a difficult and largely impossible task trying to ensure we all can play PoE with minimal desync or lost connection. There is no single company involved in the transmission of Internet packets from point A to point B and back so where the packet loss is coming from isn't always easy to identify and fix.

That is correct when I set my client to Europe I get 0 latency spikes, when I set the client to America my ping jumps from 150 > 1800 when going through Europe my ping stays at a stable 200ms i saw only 2 spikes to about 400 that caused no issue.

I did note however at shortly after 10pm PST last night I set my client back to America and had no spikes in the short time I was on so I am leaning towards Shaw being the problem as it started about 6pm which would be a high saturation period network wise especially on a Saturday night.

edit: I will do a traceroute later as well (i'm at work at the moment) I was going to do it last night but ordered a pizza and watched a movie lol
edit 2: i will do the winmtr later and post in that thread as well thanks everyone for the inputs, information & insights :)

same problem here from two days ago.
what the heck is going on this game???
Hey all,

For us to diagnose these issues further, we need to see trace routes when you're encountering the problem.
For the trace routes, can you please use a program like WinMTR or PingPlotter.
These programs show us more information than a typical tracert from command prompt.

We're happy to investigate them and troubleshoot the issue with you, but we can only do so much without seeing a report of where the connection is experiencing the trouble.

Thanks for the reply Henry, I will do the trace route's when I get home and update the thread :)

the issue is not happening currently but will post when/if it comes up again with the results

I wonder if your ISP has over-subscribed service in your area and there are times (usually late afternoon until late evening) that the latency is extremely high. Usually if this is the case you can play PoE early Sunday morning with no problems but late afternoon and early evenings are a no go for playing PoE (too many people in your neighborhood are using the Internet, downloading Netflix movies, etc.).

Get some statistics posted on normal verses unplayable times and let's see what's going on with your connection

Necessity may be the mother of invention, but poor QoP in PoE is the father of frustration.

As stated previously get the WinMTR utility: http://winmtr.net/download-winmtr/ installed and run tests both when PoE plays ok and when it is lagging out, post the test results, and let's see if we can identify the problem.

For example, my connection from Cape Coral, Florida is this:

Test run at 4:50 am on 6-14-13

WinMTR v0.92 GPL V2 by Appnor MSP

So for me it looks like the ping is from 40 to 103 which is very good. So early morning this is my PoE Internet ping test. If I run it in the early evening I'll get similar results which is why I can play PoE at any time with minimal desync. I did experience a disconnect Monday night at just after 11:00 pm EST which is unusual for me but that does happen once in a while.

So run WinMTR at good and bad PoE playing times, save as a text file, and post your results.
