Severe lack of balance once again ruining the game

But mageblood has some drawbacks. Can't use other belt. Does nothing for unique flasks. Even its price is a drawback.

And I don't even like mageblood being in the game as I think existence of mageblood is a reason for GGG to keep monsters balanced at stupid dangerous. Just my objective observations.

I think the simple fact of existence of busted items would be whatever on its own. But when game difficulty is being balanced to be challenging for those using the busted items thats where devs start to lose me since it becomes overly punishing for people who aren't.
POE2 should be the ruthless vision experience and POE1 should be the zoom power fantasy sandbox to capture both audiences.
I petition to return all the fun stuff that was removed or nerfed over the years back into POE1.

Yet you do not have one, which makes the whole topic read less like actual criticism and more like classic fear of missing out over other people owning a Mageblood. There is not really any substance explaining why the items are supposedly bad or unbalanced. It kind of just sounds like being upset that other players optimized their characters better and now run faster than you.

Yet i do not have one because I didn't target farm for it like my life depended on it like most other players?

I already said I could easily have one by targetting rare belts on tree + harbi ancient orb farm.. Nothing about jealousy i just want the game balance to be better
once you buy it - it has no drawbacks

if you NEED a unique flask - there is that 5th slot for you, if you need TWO (unlikely) - just re-roll it from 4 to 3 leftmost flasks

other than these niche cases, it is best belt no questions asked. there are builds that are centered around belt slot (ward builds come to mind) but the reminder 95-99% of build spectrum would use mageblood 10/10 if it was free to take

this is a sign of badly designed item

Headhunter - no longer considered chase item - despite looking silly is still far better designed item than MB. if given for free there is a huge set of players who would turn it down. MB? no. the power, esp thanks to 70% flask effect for free is too great, easily replacing 3-4 other gear slots and solving far too many problems at once

Original Sin - also expensive, stupidly expensive even - is a well designed chase item. it isnt universal, it isnt gamebreaking yet it is very, very strong for its uses and opens new way of building for quite wide array of builds.

Well said
Reviewing some of the opinions on item design and balance serves as a useful reminder that game development is a complex discipline best handled by experienced professionals. This thread illustrates that point well. While GGG is not without its shortcomings, the vast majority of the time they demonstrate a deeper understanding of these systems. Design decisions such as Mageblood, particularly within the ARPG genre and Path of Exile’s itemization framework, are strong examples of this expertise.
I, for one, don't like pressing too many buttons. That doesn't make me unskilled, lazy, complacent or whatever other descriptor you are trying to pluck from your vocabulary. - Unknown philosopher, ca. 2025

Lol its not that complex, you can stop pretending like game devs can't make any mstakes / everything is always perfect... You can just see how they attempt to balance the game and items every patch just not doing a great job at it, if everything they did was perfect from the get-go why would they need to balance the game? Remind me what happened to ashes of stars / omni / whispers again? just to name a few mistakes..

Precisely. It is not that complex yet you're pretending it is. MB and EE aren't the game breaking items you think they are.

Wow.......that's a belly laugh from me. Mageblood, drawbacks?!

It is most likely single handedly the most powerful ubiquitous item in the entire game, and likely by a LOT. There is no other item you can slap on ANY build and receive massive defenses equivalent to multiple auras and 10+ passive tree points, or offensive stats equivalent to almost an entire weapon, or both at the same time. (*Clarification for those who don't want to read carefully: there are OTHER belt options that are more powerful for CERTAIN builds over Mageblood. I'm talking ubiquity here)

And you say the "drawback" is being unable to use another belt? That isn't a drawback.....that is what "gearing" is. Every time you slap on any piece of gear, you think its a drawback that you can't use other pieces within the same slot? That makes zero sense.

Does nothing for unique flasks? You don't NEED any unique flasks with a mageblood. Or if you do, there's a whole slot left that isn't affected in any way. Want defense? You can STILL use Progenesis. Want offense? You can STILL use Lions Roar or Sun or explodey potion. Want mf? You can STILL use Divination. PLUS you also have the option to......not use 4 support flasks if you want more unique flasks. You have 2 unique flasks that outweigh a 4th supprot in mageblood? Guess what, you can DO THAT!

Even its price is a drawback? No.....price and rarity reflect its power, that isn't a drawback. A drawback is a negative if you choose to equip it AFTER you own it. Items don't have drawbacks until you have them and need to decide whether or not to use it over another option.
Starting anew....with PoE 2
