User story:

Go into Kingsmarch and an NPC says something to you, there is an option you can choose to actually chat with them for x seconds (Maybe they limit by calling it "Small talk")

Then using a model trained on the POE lore, the character talks to you about gossip around town using generative AI and a little info about the things you've been doing in Kingsmarch. Maybe a funny joke about an item that was disenchanted or whatever. Completely normal townie small-talk or banter. If you do something inappropriate (ability is disabled via some sort of Jailing mechanic/art. maybe this can result in some extra gold from betting the NPC on things around town (like a pool for the next mapper that gets killed and that money goes to the family of the mapper.) It would be an artistic gold sink. AI and mic are required for voice chat. It would also be a good opportunity to actually add in-game voice chat similar to how Rocket League did for car soccer as well as many popular FPS. It seems like these things have probably been discussed and decided upon in the past most likely if you are like any dev shop I've worked for, but with AI, this seems like the obvious first integration into a game that can have a long life without going too far from its core. The educational value of something like this for people who have difficulty with social interaction... It is tremendous. Imagine socially anxious people learning how to perform small talk and improving at it because you integrated AI into POE and let them do small talk with NPCs.... Come on. The socially inexperienced need this, you can provide it. If you need help making it work, I'll work for free.

On top of that, you could sell data to economists that want to study human-AI social and economic interaction similar to how WoW has been used in various economics and other fields of research. The global value would be tremendous...

I personally would agree to an update of terms of service that any recorded 'small talk' data may be used for research purposes so long as there were clauses excluding data uses that might be objectionable of course. I sense players that would want to use this feature might agree. More blind players will most like start playing this game soon, this will add color for them!

An ARPG really isn’t the game for that kind of thing; a large proportion of the playerbase doesn’t bother with the lore handwritten by GGG, so I don’t see AI slop having a high engagement rate.

It'll never stop being funny when AI-bros try to pitch an idea. It looks/sounds so pathetic every single time.
