The webpage (background) artstyle - less commercialism needed

I agree totally. Current background seems a bit wowish to me, boy was I suprised to see how diffrent it is in game.
Be ready. You're not paranoid, you're PREPARED.

I quit this game every few months and so should you to continue playing it in the future.

The device is believed to have been dropped
I would like to see it changed to different art styles occasionally. I believe this would help to attract more players in the long run.

A feature to customize it to any previously used background of our choice would be sweet too.

More players = More money = happy fat devs = more toys 4 us.

As long as these guys don't sell us out to Electronicactiblizztard.
Thank you for linking to the old background, sakalthor -- I'm new enough that I'd never seen it.

I love it. Wow. So much more representative of what this game is about. The image on the top right is desolate, expansive, abandoned...and yet inviting, in a way. And the Witch in the doorway, well, not the *best* artwork in the world but that bloodstain tells quite the story.

I think that the two characters represented on the current page, referenced with several of the unique items, are meant to a larger scale struggle in Wraeclast's history.

...it really doesn't suit the game, though. I can't really say either figure intrigues me all that much -- their place in the backstory isn't part of my character's story...

yet.

But if I had my druthers, I'd definitely have that old background back. If I logged on one day and that was up, I'd be like 'ooooh new artwork, nice!'

(bliss, I tell you.)

Warhammer 40k Inquisitor: where shotgunning is not only not nerfed, it is deeply encouraged.

Dogma > Souls, but they're masterworks all. You can't go wrong.

I was right about PoE2 needing to be a separate, new game. It was really obvious.

At least now we know how quickly Russell can whip up some new graphics in a pinch.

I support the OP's opinion though. I think the current background is too much. I'd like to see something darker and more foreboding.

Although i always dig for more darker themes anytime, the game firstly should be dark enough to fit with lovecraftian theme which is not; otherwise it would grin unpleasantly.

I agree, the old one looks much better. Especially the right half.
I think they could put both new and old together.

I haven't meant it in a way "do it like a Lovecraft" - I just want to make it more "darker". And Lovecraft is an essence of darkness. So as an inspiration it's quite formidable author.

You are welcome. I am also happy that someone with the qualities of your person supports this idea too :)

I totally approve of this.Music and ambience hook me to games like nothing else can.And that old background really stirs my thoughts and emotions, hard to explain, but it's beautiful :')
I'll work out something that is both eye catching and properly depressive for the background. Hopefully before open beta. Ideally we can change the background as we release new content to keep it dynamic and fresh.

Btw, have a look at the work of Beksinski.
