This entire Situation just further highlights the Fact that we desperately need Offline Trading

"
Even taking into account the risk of missing a sale, wouldn’t items that either reliably go up in price later in the league, or extremely niche ones that are hard to price, still remain scarce — even if offline trading were introduced — because they’d either be listed manually with an “asking price” or at some absurd number? (that's just how I would approach it.)

You wouldn't list things you don't plan on selling (unless you are price fixing). Things that steadily increase in value would indicate a need for you to come online if you don't want to cash out while offline. Iirc Guild Wars 2 had this and it worked fine. Though don't quote me on that; it's been like a decade and I might be getting my games confused.

For other things, the solution is that it's better than no offline trade at all. You wouldn't list things marked for offline trade if you don't want to sell for a higher price later. The specific cases you are talking about are relatively rare and easily filtered out as nonsense.

If there's a very specific combination I need and there exists exactly 1 copy of it in the entire league because nobody else bothered to corrupt a niche item and it happens to be priced at like 150d, then I will farm that 150d to get it. Point being, I could at least buy it.

Specifically, something like this:

No other exists in the league, or at least none are listed, at all. I waited a few days for the guy to come online, and I was psyched when I saw that he was suddenly online.

Or stuff like this:

But I will not do the same for some folks that think they can strip you for currency and have a laugh. I had a guy the other day relist an item for much more without a reply to my offer (only a couple Div lower), and then he kept taunting me to buy it if I wanted it so bad, but then someone else came online who sold it to me for even cheaper than the other guy's original listing, lol. Karma's a bitch, as they say.

It would be a lot better if they just removed trading completely so the game wasn't balanced around trade degens.
As a player who chooses SSF due to trade-related FOMO, I definitely have a cognitive bias.
I tend to assume that there are many players who share the same fear of pricing common Unique with rare corrupt mods. (But, how true is this assumption, really?)

In any case, whether or not someone chooses to price or sell their item is entirely up to them, so it can’t be used as a reason to oppose the introduction of offline trading.

I acknowledge that my earlier point was based on a flawed argument.

I'm happy to note that you now seem to understand my point.

I don't get trade FOMO per sé, but it does at times contribute to me just giving up on an idea I wanted to explore further when I can't actually buy the items listed. It's more the frustration of the carrot dangling before my eyes that is essentially the equivalent to the final missing puzzle piece that gets me to stop playing. If you don't have the tools to make something become reality, there's no point in chasing it when you know the tools you have available will not suffice.

It's ok when people want to quit a league, but don't take away access to items that technically already exist. That is basically why I want offline trade.

The scarcity in hctrade can break a mans heart whenever most of the magebloods(or other expensive/rare items like nimis) that end up on the market just sit in someones trade tab when they quit because they would rather move it to standard than to sell it for a reasonable price.

sctrade has enough items its usually not an issue. Items are plenty abundant.
