Will the first character I create suck?

My current character rocks.
My first character was the suckiest.
The characters in between, I wasn't afraid to fail.
With time, you get better, you work out what's optimal.
The learning curve, the journey, was the pleasantest.

No one succeeds in the first try, sort of like real life.
I think if I made the best character the first go, wait, isn't that what D3 tried to do? And look at all the disgruntled whiny people. They zipped through the content, and now they're bitter.

Perhaps you're playing the wrong game.

My first character taught me how to build a better one, and my better one was too boring, so I made a gimmicky one which sucks so hard but is so much fun to play I can't stop, I'm doing fine in end-game with almost no gear my level, and nothing bothers me too much except lag and dozing off from playing too much.

I don't think it matters whether your first 1 or 10 characters suck. You accumulate wealth no matter how many characters you level - that's the beauty of POE's drop system. If you play the game enough, you can twink out your re-rolls enough to where any build, no matter how bad, will eventually succeed.
