Language Filter - Cant Believe You Missed This

I think every player with a brain will agree, we absolutely need a language filter. In an age where discrimination is the norm and political/religious opinions are discussed in public of all places (good grief!), there is bound to be someone offended in regular conversation.

Words like ass, damn, or other general bullshit like that, they're all fine.. but some things are just so offensive that no player should have to be subjected to. Words like "Diablo 3," "D3," "Free Gold," and "Power Leveling" (amongst others).

While the generic (boring!) chat filter, consisting of asterisk asterisk asterisk asterisk, is employed by less creative communities, I propose something a little bit more fun for the suave and savvy GGG -- replace those despicable words with chat macros, so that (what would otherwise be) the offended community can have a laugh at such social transgressions! A feature truly befitting your ingenuity!

You could, for example, replace "Diablo 3" with "Asparagus" or "D3" with "Boobies."

I mean, could you imagine a global chat where it is possible to read "Wow, this game is so much better than Boobies!" promptly followed by "Dude, your priorities are messed up."

That'd be great!

TLDR: If you're only reading the TLDR, then you probably missed the part where I was fake-trolling and composing a long thought out (intentionally anti-climatic) joke. Shame on you.

This game is not for kids. If you get offended by some letters on the internet, this is your own fault.
I don't want to be treated like a child and have a company decide which words I may read and which not.

HOWEVER

I am all for a custom word filter list people can edit at their own convenience.

Also, I have nothing against chat moderators (we had them at the public weekends and it worked fine) to combat flamewars in global chat.

I totally agree ;) I believe censorship of any kind is an insult to one's intelligence, and that there is no such thing as "offensive content", only people who choose to take offense (but choose not to acknowledge their responsibility in doing so)

But just this once, there's an opportunity for censorship that I can get behind, if only to see Boobies all over global chat :)

We need a name filter first. Language filter can be an option but never forced -- too many contexts in which I want to say fuck and shit and ass and not be actually insulting anyone. Mature game and all that. Having to work around these on Bnet for years just made us all look a bit stupid. fukk and sh1t and a$$....really?! No thanks.

Also, I still believe that global chat's days are numbered, at least as far as it being the only real 'channel'...

Glad you don't have any real say in it then. That Other Game or TOG is an effective means of reducing needless chatter about...That Other Game.
