<<*Bear Trap*>>

Today, I was in some 3 v 3 Low Level PvP matches, and a lot of bear traps were being used.

During the matches, I found that the mechanics as to how Bear Trap works is very awkward, or at least not described well.

I did a few test/trial runs to confirm some of my suspicions about how Bear Trap worked, some were answered and some still remain unanswered.

The test runs I did were to discover which skills could be used to clear traps, and as to how many of the traps could be cleared at once.

I also ran a few tests to see how the immobilization would work.

http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Bear_Trap
^This is the reference I used to build onto my knowledge

Test runs (Used Immortal Call to test how immobilization duration worked since immobilization increases with an increase in PHYSICAL damage or increased duration or buff/debuff)

These are the controls I used
1. Bear trap w/ my gear on - Immobilized for 2 seconds
2. Bear trap w/o my gear on - Immobilized for 3 seconds (Confirming duration scales with physical damage)
3. Bear trap w/ temporal chains - Immobilized for 4 seconds (Confirming the buff/debuff effect)

Now the test runs:
1. Bear trap w/ nothing - Immortal call negated the immobilization and damage if activated beforehand
2. Bear trap w/ added fire - Negates the physical damage, but still immobilized for 2 seconds as if I had no immortal call
3. Bear trap w/ added lightning - Negates the physical damage, but still immobilized for a few seconds
4. Bear trap w/ hatred - Same as 3.

I then tried with conversion of physical damage into elemental.
1. Bear trap w/ Hrim gloves - Negates physical damage, still immobilized

According to the PoE Wiki, the duration of the immobilization depends on the amount of PHYSICAL damage done and buff/debuff and inc. duration.

However, according to my test runs, any sort of elemental damage would ignore that rule and immobilize the character.

Here are the theories my friends and I have come up with
1. The game mechanics accounts elemental damage as a "buff/debuff"
2. Gems that add/convert elemental damage bypass the bear trap rule
3. A high enough elemental damage that will make a difference in the damage will activate the immobilization

Also, a bug/glitch I notice is that if you get bear trap spammed enough, you literally can't attack someone that's right beside you. I accounted for the fact that I may possibly be stunned but since I use Chayula, that's not possible.

I would appreciate it if someone, preferably a GGG staff could clarify how the mechanics of Bear Trap works, along with some clarification.

when u say bear trap with hatred, do u mean while the aura is currently activated on your person? Also which one stunned the longest, or were they about the same? You said a few seconds on one(which is 3) and specifically noted 2 seconds on another(added fire). Also was there a difference in timing with the conversion of physical damage to elemental?

Then the wiki is wrong. Bear Trap immobilizes for a duration based on how much damage the trap deals, compared to maximum life. Not just physical. The wiki is not an official GGG resource, and is frequently wrong on details. You should take what you read there with a grain of salt if it does not line up with your in-game experience.

Elemental damage isn't bypassing some bear trap "rule" about only physical because there is no such rule. The immobilization is based on how much damage the trap deals, not just how much physical damage.

Then possibly, could you add a skill that can reveal traps or a skill that removes debuff/immobilization or something similar?

In Low Level PvP, even with max resists (80%) and immortal call, I still get immobilized for 2 seconds if they have Hatred + Added Fire Damage then just get chained.

I love bear traps.
The only thing broken about them is the same shit as flickerstrike, being able to use like 3 sets of the gem. This allows u to always have beartraps to throw down while the others are on cool down and filling up.

This BM troll constantly harassed me in game and on forums because I wouldn't sell my lvl 28 dagger to him for a lowball. THIS IS A WARNING TO ANYONE THAT INTENDS TO BE AFFILIATED WITH THIS PSYCHOTIC PLAYER. I will be opening a report to GGG if he continues to harass me.
